1. As I understand it, it eliminates a ridiculous time limit for reporting inequitable pay practices.

4. Suing about inequitable pay
Supreme Court ruled that if you accepted your inequitable pay for more than 6 months, tough noogies for you, even if you didn't know you weren't being paid fairly. This fixes that, for everybody.

5. Try Google: Ledbetter Fair Pay Act..........
http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2009/01/congress-passes.html

Legislation that makes it easier for women and others to sue for alleged wage discrimination is headed to President Obama's desk. He will sign the measure.

The House passed the bill this afternoon on a 250-177 vote. Last week the Senate passed the measure, 61-36.

As we noted in a post last week, the legislation cancels out a Supreme Court ruling last year that declared plaintiffs had to file wage claims within 180 days of a company's decision to pay a worker less than a counterpart doing the same work. Critics argued that workers could not possibly know whether they were being denied equal pay for equal work or when their employers decided to begin discriminating against them.

Under the legislation, every discriminatory paycheck would extend the statute of limitations for another 180 days.

The court ruled against Lilly Ledbetter, who said she did not become aware she was being paid less than her male counterparts until near the end of her 19-year career at a Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. plant in Gadsden, Ala. She and her case became a rallying point, and Obama brought her along on his inaugural train ride.

6. Prior to the decision, the rule had been that every new paycheck began a 180-day period
to file a complaint with the EEOC, so this bill restores that.
