35, 000 teachers in California may be laid off


The Vice President of the California Teachers Association is urging teachers to speak out about pending education cuts. Vice President of the C.T.A . Dean Vogel met with Calexico teachers Wednesday. He says about 35,000 teachers in California can be laid off. In Calexico 100 teachers out of 500 could potentially be laid off as of March. Mr. Vogel says the goverment is only talking about cuts and not finding ways to increase revenue. He advices educators to write letters, make calls and demand the government to increase revenue and finalize the state budget. They say an increase in sales tax would help save teachers jobs. C.T.A says over the next 18 months the state is planning on cutting $8 billion in education funds.
