In the last few minutes of listening to Rush today (the so-called de facto head of the Repub Party)
Again, someone's got to do it. (This is a copy of a comment I made in a thread in GP but I thought it would be useful here)

He sounds particularly unhinged today. Started off by railing against some financial guy on CNBC who dared to not agree with his views - missed most of that part.

Then Obama - Liar! Liar! Says shrinkage of economy the worst in "almost 3 decades"!!!! WRONG, it's the worst since 1982! Thats . . . . . 27 years ago. Oooops! Never mind. This little bit was completely hilarious as he followed his own flawed logic.

The Lily Ledbetter Bill has nothing to do with equal pay for women but is just a gift to the trial lawyers (!)

How many jobs have been lost since Obama took office?

Obama is waging a War on Prosperity ! This one is OBVIOUSLY his new frame and he will repeat this one over and over.

10. That was fun. They actually LAUGHED at that horse's ass.

He knows he's in deep shit if he guests on what he has always referred to as the 'drive-by media'.

And he's flip-flopping big time to save what's left of his pasty white ass.

His own words ....

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down. And I would be encouraging Republicans to lay down and support him. Look, what he's talking about is the absorption of as much of the private sector by the U.S. government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care. I do not want the government in charge of all of these things. I don't want this to work. So I'm thinking of replying to the guy, 'Okay, I'll send you a response, but I don't need 400 words, I need four: I hope he fails.' (interruption) What are you laughing at? See, here's the point. Everybody thinks it's outrageous to say. Look, even my staff, 'Oh, you can't do that.' Why not? Why is it any different, what's new, what is unfair about my saying I hope liberalism fails? Liberalism is our problem. Liberalism is what's gotten us dangerously close to the precipice here. Why do I want more of it? I don't care what the drive-by story is. I would be honored if the drive-by media headlined me all day long: 'Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails.' Somebody's gotta say it."

What he was saying in the CNBC interview is a whole lot different.

Rush. Give it up. The whole world now knows, if they didn't before, that you are a lying weasel.

12. I heard a portion of this as well. He was spewing. Calling Obama
a liar. Yesterday, he called the White House immoral and lying, not Obama by name. Today, Obama is the liar.

And the person on TV he was railing about was Ali Velshi on CNN. Velshi basically said anyone who says that tax cuts only right now will solve the problems (like Rush) is a liar and doesn't know what they're talking about. So Rush was foaming because Ali Velshi called him a liar.

He really sounds desparate and unhinged. It was pretty amusing.

he was really going around the bend over it. You CANNOT disagree with Rush!

This is why this man rarely if ever interviews or talks to anyone of any substance on his show. He can only function as a meglomaniac with a megaphone. He fails any time he steps out of that formula.

13. Disagree. "...someone's got to do it" is WRONG WRONG WRONG.
Why do hate-mongers like him get $400 million dollar contracts? One reason and one reason only: Because so many people listen to his radio show, and sponsors KNOW it. I'd be willing to bet that if WE (progressives) stopped listening to his show, his ratings would plunge to the point of serious impact on whoever agreed to pay him that much money in the first place.

The excuses people give when they quote mush and insanity make me laugh every time I see them. "I was channel surfing on the radio today and..." Excuse me? Channel surfing on the radio? Okay. So you were pushing your radio's preset buttons. That means you have at least one preset button tuned to all-hate radio. "I was channel surfing on TV today and HAPPENED to come across insanity's show..." Excuse me? On my DirectTV box, fox is nowhere near any other channels I might tune in to. These excuses are meant to deflect anyone who might take a person to task for listening to hate radio, or watching hate TV by making it seem as though it was quite by "accident". Hogwash. We're (progressives as a group) funding hate radio and TV with our attention to it. How many posts beginning with BREAKING! in the subject line come from the sludgereport? If the number is larger than ZERO, we're funding sludge's website and his lifestyle.

If we'd ignore their message of hate, it might lose its dominance of the media. I don't watch insanity on TV, listen to mush on the radio, or get my news from the sludgereport. I'm probably a lot less pissed off than I might be otherwise. Progressives should stop patronizing their TV stations and radio frequencies, as well as their websites.

16. Well, I disagree
Edited on Fri Jan-30-09 01:45 PM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
You will always find people on these boards listening to Fox News, Hannity, Limbaugh, etc. because it is important to know how your adversary is framing their arguments, distorting the truth, parroting talking points, etc.etc. and polluting any real and sincere political discussion.

I think we MIGHT be at a tipping point at this very moment where it is possible that Rush could be publicly defrocked as the leader of conservative intelligentsia by virtue of just MORE people listening to him and discovering just how puny is his knowledge and how failed his dogma.

Right this second, he is STILL talking about "Environmental Whackos" ! Most of the world and our country have moved way beyond believing that the environment and climate change is just the concern of a few tree-hugging liberals. There is drought beyond compare in some places of the world, the Artic shelf is disappearing, people get mercury poisoning from eating sushi, etc. It is intruding into the life of the common man. Rush STILL acting like climate change is something Al Gore made up to sell books is just pathetic.

The more Republicans align themselves to and kowtow to a person like this, the more they discredit themselves. Plus, it's always fun for someone to ask a Republican, "Do you agree with Rush Limbaugh that ------(fill in the blank)" and then watch them squirm as they try to select whether to come down on the side of reality or risk Rush's wrath and know that they will have to crawl across his carpet of broken glass and apologize publicly to him within the next 48 hours.

17. So we make him go away by listening to him. Enriching his employers and sponsors.
Thus allowing them to pay him more and more. I'm afraid I don't see the logic in that. He's not going away unless his ratings tank, and the only way his ratings tank is if we stop listening. Otherwise, he can say whatever he wants to say and as long as people are tuning in, he's guaranteed a spot on the public airwaves no matter how outrageous, hateful, or plain wrong he is.

You can listen to mush for me I guess. Keep me informed. He and his shitto heads make up the minority. If I was really worried about what he said, I'd get a transcript of his radio show rather than supporting his sponsors. Same with insanity, same with sludge. Let someone else fund their programs.

22. I don't know how me listening to him occasionally enriches him or his sponsors.
How could they possibly know if I am listening to him? I have answered no surveys, or patronized any of his sponsors. In fact, I wonder how they field any type of credible numbers as to what his real listenership is.

If, as you say, he and his shittoheads are in the minority, it's even more unreal that people like Pat Buchanan are calling him the de facto head of the Republicans and people like Gingrey have to prostrate themselves on his shrine.

27. No 'ffense, but if you're going to preach
what are you doing with DirecTV? That's Murdoch. If you're going to play the purist, you could go for Dish, which is by no means perfect, but is a helluvalot more blue. Dish had a 24/7 Obama channel from the end of election until the Inauguration. Betcherass you didn't see that on Murdoch's DirecTV and it doesn't get any more Progressive than that for a provider. If you're going to call out others for just listening, maybe you ought to sweep your own doorstep because you're writing a check every month straight to the Dark Side. Think before you flame.

And I'll agree with the other poster -- there is value in knowing what your enemy is up to. Militaries devote whole divisions to intelligence-gathering. Spies and scouts have been a part of warfare since the first caveman picked up a rock and threw it at another one. Please. Just because someone makes the occasional effort to tune in to suffer 1 to 5 minutes of Lush or Insanity doesn't automatically mean there's a preset.

32. Tried D/N when I first moved here. No reception.
I live in a forested area. No clear view of the southern sky from anywhere on my property. The Dish technician said I'd have to go with cable. Cable has a terrible reputation around here. I called DirecTV and the tech had it up and running in less than an hour. Since then I've had ONE glitch: The dish loaded up with snow and I lost the signal. I took care of that with some thermal tape, and now have no problems whatsoever.

No 'ffense, but I wouldn't have watched Obama 24/7 even if it were available on DirecTV, so I couldn't care less whether it were offered or not. I voted for him, he won the election, end of story for me until 1/20/09. I leave the swooning over the man, his wife, and his children to other people.

If mush or insanity does something newsworthy, it'll be reported somewhere. I don't need to tune in to know what he's saying.

I never managed to get over 5wpm with dittybops, but I've watched my dad many a time drinking coffee, working a crossword, and taking bops at 10wpm. The man could bop in his sleep, G'd rest him. 24. And how were they using that talking point?
Rush was attempting to say things aren't as bad as we think they are. But I would say that this is only how bad they are SO FAR. House prices are still dropping, jobs are still being lost, so we haven't seen the bottom. Being the worst in almost 30 years is bad enough for most people. Also, Rush is displaying a real lack of context, since I don't remember Wall Street going down the tubes or talks of potential worldwide financial collapse in 1982.

I have never seen Al Franken more confused as the idiot was boed and the words LIAR carried over to the national air.

Note it here folks - The Democrats and/or Obama's War on Prosperity.

I'd like to know if he originated the point or did it come out of the Heritage Foundation or Republican polling or what. Not that I really care - the point is that they just don't care about the challenges we are all facing. Or the challenges that people who don't have 400 million dollar radio contracts are facing.

25. If that's the best he can come up with
I mean he starts by bitching about somebody that disagreed with him... okay that's typical gasbag behavior.

Then he states the fact that this is the worst shrinkage in 27 years... okay, and I'm sure Rush is an expert on shrinkage (couldn't resist)

Then he attacks a bill that most people would say is just common sense... typical Rush, who is right that there are likely to be new lawsuits, but that is only because THE FUCKING COMPANIES WERE DISCRIMINATING AGAINST WOMEN... I am not sure what part of that Douchebag doesn't understand

How many jobs have been lost since Obama took office? Puh-leeez.

And finally Obama waging war on prosperity? Let's reframe that one... Obama is waging war so that the middle class can share the prosperity.

Yep, if that's his arsenal, his movement is toast.

34. Blaming the recent job losses on Obama is like lending your car to your drunken brother-in-law
He delivers the car back to you at the end of the night with dents on all quarters, the windshield is shattered, and the tires shredded.

When the side view mirror falls off onto the driveway as you're inspecting the damage, your brother-in-law looks at you and says: "that was fine while I was driving it".
