Even more BS.. sigh
EXCLUSIVE: Stimulus has plum for lawmaker's son -

Here are the basics..

The Senate Appropriations Committee approved 802 million for park spending in its stimulus bill due in part to chief lobbyist - Craig Obey.

The amount has since been bumped up to 2.25 Billion.. by the House Appropiations Committee.. and guess who daddy is in charge of the committee.. Craig Obey.. but according to House Appropriations Committee Chairman David R. Obey.. that had nothing to do with it..

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/jan/29/stimulus-includes-plum-lawmakers-son/

I have been called many things in my life.. I have no issues with being called cynical.. and not to steal a phrase but I don't trust anybody.

3. What's the problem here?
The fact that a pro-parks lobbyist and the congressman are father and son isn't proof of wrongdoing, and our national parks desperately need the money after years and years of having budgets slashed. In fact, this money could be used to refurbish neglected conservation sites, which also creates jobs and helps the environment.

Again, I fail to see the problem.

11. Not a problem at the moment.
But for me it would be a huge problem if we find out subsequent to the appropriation that the son got a raise totaling more than COLA.

13. The money could be used to ...
... encourage science instead of the superstitions being injected into all the brochures and literature handed out at our National Parks.

You ever hear about that crap the fundies tried to put in a Grand Canyon book? (http://www.time.com/time/columnist/jaroff/article/0,9565,783829,00.html )

17. Sure, I've read all about that, but...
I really doubt such idiocies will continue under the current administration.

4. Thats a good idea..
actually I RSS about 40 different news sites. I don't believe there is any ONE legitimate source out there. That being said.. I am not going to sit on my butt and think I am in Lollipop land and that the gov't is going to magically turn around and "Change" in one month.

5. Well, point being that while there isn't one legitimate source, the Wash. Times is far from that.
The paper has a distinct right-wing voice, not just on the editorial page, and it's owned by uber-rightwinger/cult leader Rev. Sun Myung Moon.

............edit to add some pertinent info:

...Craig Obey signed an e-mail letter to the conservation group's membership Wednesday hailing the House vote, which he called "great news for our economy and our national parks."

Tom Martin, executive vice president of the parks group, said the association does not lobby David Obey on parks appropriations issues. He said Craig Obey "is a terrific representative for restoring America's national parks."

Tom Schatz, president of Citizens Against Government Waste, said Craig Obey may have made a mistake by signing the letter, "given the obvious potential for controversy," but said "the fact he wrote the letter doesn't mean he did the lobbying.

no surprise coming from the Moonie Times.

15. Thats the first time anyone has called my sig telling.. lol
I would recommend you take a read on "Prometheus Unbound" by Percy Bysshe Shelley. The whole piece was a little too long to put in as a sig.. I assumed some would know the reference. Maybe I give too much credit?

14. It has other meanings as well...
"'without a master' and symbolizes true independence, self-sufficiency, and personal accomplishment."

If that was ALL your research told you about the name.. then I understand your lack of concern and acceptance for business as usual.

16. It is always legitimate to question a familial relationship
in this situation. I don't know if you can trust the source insofar as the details of how this came about, but there's nothing wrong with looking into it.

The good news in this case, IMO, the Recovery Act is the right place to contemplate spending a couple billion dollars on improvements/repairs and upgrades to our national parks. It should create a significant number of new jobs. I would like to know the detail regarding how many, what kind and for how long.

8 years of Bush. The parks are a beautiful part of this country that have been horribly neglected under the Bush administration.
