Vicodin.
Crushed the end of my index finger on my left hand today. Almost tore it off from the looks of it. Had the nail cut off at the emergency room and some happy drugs to take the edge off.

Please type slow, I'm having trouble tracking.

:dunce:

Sad reason to use Hydrocodone though.

7. grew once, will come back.
be wary of the Vike, tho.

I recently was crushed inside my car by a drunk going 15 MPH over the limit, thru a red light, and drunk as a skunk. She was fine, my back and broken leg were not. And are not. and may never be.
Vicodin did not help the pain, so much, as it made you not care. Nor remember, nor think about it, nor . . . . what were we discussing?

The failure of big pharma to find a great painkiller, that has no bad side effec . . . . wait. My surgeon told me about one. He strongly rec'ced it, but taint legal in Illinois.
Something called mary jane, or marijuanita, or something. He said, "no mental goof up like vicodin, no liver problems like any narcotic or NSAID, no permanency, no addiction, and no problems with it . . . except for it being illegal."

12. What strength? 5mg hydrocodone and 500 mg acetaminophen?
Edited on Sat Feb-28-09 08:48 PM by TahitiNut
They make a 10mg/660mg called Vicodin HP and a 7.5mg/750mg called Vicodin ES

You can also get Lortab (another brand) in 2.5/500, 5/500, 7.5/500, and 10/500 of hydrocordone and acetaminophen.

DON'T do more than 4000mg acetaminophen daily! (Could cause liver damage.)

29. my best wishes.
trust me, pain and I have been close acquaintences since August. the best part is when the drops down to bearable. On those few occasions that it does.

You will have three stages to deal with.
a) the immediate, horrible recognition (and pain) of having your carbon based bag of mostly water damaged.
the recovery takes time, and it will throb and THROB, then feel tolerable, then FUCKING THROB!.
b) as you recover, you will find your other hand doing things it never did before, even though that "asset" was never your goal.
c) the nail regrowth can be a real bitch. or as my ortho surgeon said, "Take my wife. Please."

TRULY, it does get better, but you will be frustrated, sorry to say.

But remember, that Big Pharma spent a billion promoting Vioxx which did not work as well or as safely as the painkiller they were replacing.
Let's all raise your injured finger to Big Pharma in thanks. (would it by chance, be the middle one?)

Thanks for your thoughts and timeline for recovery.

I stabbed myself in the forehead with the corner of a tiled wall once..(actually I was slammed into one) and had to take four small staples in my skull....and 16 on the outside to repair the damage....

This ain't as exciting as that was, but more irritating, perhaps.....

Oh, the hydrocodone won't hurt you but the Tylenol they put in with it might if you lose track of things and take too much.

Put that hand up in the air, flake out on the couch, and enjoy the haze as you veg out in front of the TV. You've earned the right.

Just watch that Tylenol intake, m'kay?

It doesnt work as well as everyone says, but its about the strongest (my ass) pain med doctors will prescribe anymore.

I finally stopped going to the doctor (orthopedist) because vicodin was putting me in such bad moods.

I hurt more, but my general wellbeing is better without that stuff.

vicodin is hydrocodone and tylenol (acetominophen)...
vicoprofen is hydrocodone and advil(ibuprofen)...

tylenol doesn't do anything for me- i prefer my hydrocodone to be cut with advil.

49. Cold packs will help with the pain when you are tired of being stupid from the Vicodin
Edited on Sat Feb-28-09 11:19 PM by csziggy
Pain killers have their place - like when a horse tries to rip your arm off or you fold a torn miniscus in your knee - as I have done. But for the long run, cold packs will help without making you as stupid as the drugs.

I found frozen black eyed peas make a great cold pack - they don't drip as they thaw out, can be refrozen as many times as you want and they are cheap. The small peas conform to any body part, too.

I keep a supply of Vicodin around for my bad knees and shoulders - next ortho appointment is end of this coming week. But I HATE taking that crap. Yeah, it can be fun for occasional use, but I think it cuts my IQ in half. My doctors know how much I hate it so they let me refill it without going in every time since I refuse to take it as much as they recommend.

Edited to add: Glad you didn't do worse by your finger - my uncle cut three of his off in a table saw. They were re=attached and kinda worked until he passed away ten years later.
