Freepers claim turnout of 400 at NYC "Tea Party"
Edited on Sat Feb-28-09 09:05 PM by marmar
Right...... :freak:

And isn't the population of New York City 8 million? ..... What dumbasses. :dunce:

This links to article with photos and video on the NYC Tea Party. I believe the number of people there was closer to 400. Amazing...considering it was very short notice and it IS NYC!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TOPICS: Activism/Chapters; Constitution/Conservatism; Government; US: New York
KEYWORDS: aar; bho44; nyc; porkulus; socialism; teaparty
There's another NYC Tea Party planned for March. Will get date and post here. Hopefully it's not when I have to WORK.

Great pics. Good to see conservatives in NYC. I think this will spread to even moderate Dems because O is going to screw baby boomers and seniors retirements plus their kids.

I liked the guy’s pitchfork sign. Funny.

I bet there’s more conservatives in NYC than there are in some states.

Don’t forget there’s over 6 million people in nyc and if 10% of them are conservative, that’s 600,000 people.

After joining the FR, I’ve met many of them at FR and other conservative events.

1. And over 100,000 marched against the Iraq war and it didn't get half the media coverage
as this silly tea party.

3. And the 100,000 plus was just in
NYC. There were huge demonstrations in cities around the world. Many times, many different dates.

We were in Toronto when Iraq was attacked, and joined a march there. I don't know how many thousands there were, but we watched for a while on TV, then went off and joined the marchers.

Like 400 is anything to be impressed by.

6. 400 people out of 8,000,000 equals
.005% of the population. A very impressive turnout. :sarcasm:

2. Could have been 4000. and it still would have been a puny turnout...
in NYC.

Short notice?

If some had time to make elaborate protest signs, there was enough notice given.

Spin, spin, spin...

Delusion must be a ingrained character trait in order to be a RW whackjob.

34. LOL @ "short notice"
. . . in a city where a flash mob gets this many people to turn out on very short notice, there's no excuse for such a miserable turnout.

Any bets on how long before the right-wingers start singin' the blues and demanding special dispensation because they're they're a downtrodden minority? :P

4. I saw they were planning this last week
Some of the younger Freeps were begging them to change the name.
I guess they didn't want to be called "teabaggers", or tell friends they were going to New York for a "teabagging".

Maybe next time they can shout protests while they show their backsides, and call themselves "the screaming assholes".

23. Even Better... A Koch/Cato Operation...
I haven't heard this name in years, but it figures that now that Democrats are back in power, the Kochs would be back to their usual dirty work.

The fact this deal went over like a lead balloon is good, but these goons are relentless, they'll keep coming back with more astroturfing and scams.

27. The original Boston Tea Party was a protest over taxation without representation.
IIRC, The Crown decided to levy huge taxes on the price of tea that the colonies were importing from other British colonies. They had no redress to argue against this in the British government. That action was a turning point in our history and was the catalyst for the Revolutionary War and eventual Independence.

Certainly, nothing could be further from this case with their ridiculous protest against the stimulus. The American people are fully behind this action by our government. Sad that these idiots would choose to diminish an important act in our history to score cheap political points with their base, but I've grown to expect nothing less from these people.

30. It was all about the East India Company
< When tea became popular in the British colonies in North America, Parliament sought to eliminate foreign competition by passing an act in 1721 that required colonists to import their tea only from Great Britain and the East India Company...

Many American colonists, particularly the wealthy smugglers, resented this favored treatment of a major company, which employed lobbyists and wielded great influence in Parliament.>

The rest is history...

19. There are two exceptionally basic questions here...
We know a crowd of 400 isn't exactly a crowd in NYC--but...

First, how many of the 400 were just innocent bystanders they counted among their total? If 50 bona fide freepers were there, and 350 other people just walked over to see what was going on, the freepers WOULD count them in the total for the protest.

And second, how many of the people in the "crowd" were really DUers, Kossacks, Billionaires for Bush and other liberal plants?

25. It was NOT 400 - it was 200 max, I was there
I did a headcount at 2:00 and got 95. The max the crowd reached was 200. A guy was shuffling thru the crowd muttering 400, 400 and getting folks to agree with him. But it was a dumbassed lie.

This is apparently the smallest miniature horse in the world at 17-1/2" at the shoulders. They take her to children's hospitals.
