Paul Harvey died. I know he was a GOPer but I liked his rest of the stories
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-paul-harvey-dead,0,6120173.story

Paul Harvey, the news commentator and talk-radio pioneer whose staccato style made him one of the nation's most familiar voices, died Saturday, ABC Radio Networks said. He was 90.

Harvey died surrounded by family at a hospital in Phoenix, according to ABC Radio Networks spokesman Louis Adams, where Harvey worked for more than 50 years. No cause of death was immediately available.

If I Were the Devil
By Paul Harvey (August 15, 1999)

I would gain control of the most powerful nation in the world;
I would delude their minds into thinking that they had come from man's effort, instead of God's
blessings;
I would promote an attitude of loving things and using people, instead of the other way around;
I would dupe entire states into relying on gambling for their state revenue;
I would convince people that character is not an issue when it comes to leadership;
I would make it legal to take the life of unborn babies;
I would make it socially acceptable to take one's own life, and invent machines to make it
convenient;
I would cheapen human life as much as possible so that the life of animals are valued more than
human beings;
I would take God out of the schools, where even the mention of His name was grounds for a
lawsuit;
I would come up with drugs that sedate the mind and target the young, and I would get sports
heroes to advertise them;
I would get control of the media, so that every night I could pollute the mind of every family
member for my agenda;
I would attack the family, the backbone of any nation.
I would make divorce acceptable and easy, even fashionable. If the family crumbles, so does the
nation;
I would compel people to express their most depraved fantasies on canvas and movie screens, and
I would call it art;
I would convince the world that people are born homosexuals, and that their lifestyles should be
accepted and marveled;
I would convince the people that right and wrong are determined by a few who call themselves
authorities and refer to their agenda as politically correct;
I would persuade people that the church is irrelevant and out of date, and the Bible is for the
naive;
I would dull the minds of Christians, and make them believe that prayer is not important, and that
faithfulness and obedience are optional;
I guess I would leave things pretty much the way they are.

12. He compared the women and children dying in Afghanistan to the 9/11 attackers.
"On his News and Comment radio show this morning, ABC Radio Networks host Paul Harvey said “the media should put a stop” to labeling “women and children” killed in war as “civilians.” He said, “It was civilians, for goodness sake, who decapitated New York City.”

But because he did it in the guise of a kindly old man, it was allowed.

19. He was such a homespun racist, though!
And even in this thread, you will see the theory that when somebody dies, it suddenly forgives the damage they did in real life. Outrageous.

It wasn't like his issues were a difference of tax policy or whether the government should be larger or smaller.

Just one question....I've noticed Paul Harvey and horse molester used in the same sentence.
Can you enlighten me? I've never heard about this.

Keep up the good work
Patricia.

ha ha

It's all true - every word of it - you didn't know?

Illinois just passed the "Harvey Law," which makes animal sex a felony.

10. DU is a white/black world with no shades of gray, no middle ground.
You are either with us, or against us. If you are on the wrong side, then you are evil, garbage, with no redeeming values and no hope of ever having any. I would like to hope that we were better than that because it is such a Republicanish attitude, but there is so much evidence here to the contrary. Democrats and Republicans: we are opposites who view each other with the same mindset, each of us convinced we are perfectly right and the other side is irredeemably wrong.

I'll remember Paul Harvey as another voice, another celebrity from my childhood that is gone. Fortunately back then my world and thinking was not carved down the middle, divided between good and evil. I won't tear down Paul Harvey, that's a mission for others.

21. I have good memories of listening to his stories with my grandmother
in her kitchen. I never liked the man personally, and have not listened to his show as an adult because of his right-wing ways, but I will always cherish those memories. My grandma is gone, but even a few seconds of hearing Paul Harvey's voice sends me right back into her kitchen again, eating my poached eggs and toast and listening to her sing to herself while washing up the breakfast dishes.

34. Harvey was entertaining because he was so absurd, and such a throwback
to an earlier era of radio. His shameless hucksterism, his dramatic pauses and bizarre inflections.

He could hold whatever political views, and he still would be absurd.
