The nude KFC employees article shows us just how bad things have become
Edited on Sat Feb-28-09 10:26 PM by TwixVoy
Although some here seem to enjoy a good laugh at the nude KFC article posted here (which has thus been moved to the lounge) I think it demonstrates a very sad and real aspect of just how powerless workers have become.

Basically a KFC location got a phone call and the person on the other end claimed to be a higher up at corporate. This person got them to eventually get naked at work under threat of job termination.

Now was is stupid to believe this person? Yes, and I suspect they may NOT have wanted to believe this person. I don't believe for a moment deep down they didn't believe it wasn't a person from corporate - but the slim chance this person was real and could terminate their employment with no recourse on their part likely caused them to follow these instructions. Likely they were used to being treated like shit, so why expect a person from corporate to treat them any different?

I can tell you from working retail that when a person from corporate comes in to the building it is like Jesus Christ him self just walked in. People will run and do anything they say with out thought. Why? Because the unspoken threat of "fu** up even slightly and your ass is gone" is constantly on your mind.

When I was the manager at the front end at my store a person from corporate came in and after having walked the store decided to go and buy a microwave. He wanted the cashier to take $50 off the price just because he said so. I went over and told his ass company policy didn't not allow employees to do that and that we would NOT be lowering the price for him. He backed down pretty fast. What was he going to do? Try to get me terminated because I wouldn't let him basically steal from the company? But I can guaran-freaking-tee you 99% of the employees in the building would have done it for him with out thought simply because they feared for their jobs and are used to seeing corruption from the top happen every day with out anyone doing anything about it.

It just goes to show how powerless the average worker is in this country. They can basically be BULLIED by these corporate fucking criminals in to doing damn near anything because they are powerless to stop it.

The fuckers are so bold they now are bullying the american tax payer in to funding their corporate asses who should be in jail. That's basically what it is. They are bullying us under THREAT of losing our jobs through mass lay offs if we don't send them our cash.

5. So...
when was the last time you worked a minimum wage job?

If you were dependent on one to survive I bet you'd understand pretty damn fast.

13. Really?
You actually understand workers peeing on each other for purposes of "decontamination?"

This has way more to do with lack of education than minimum wage slaves.

7. First off, I've got to say your subject line made back up a minute
Mostly saying:wtf: Nude KFC employees? The brain skipped out on the possible manner in which it came about, made for an interesting change of gears in the brain.

However I must be in that other one percent. Somebody called me up and say they were from corporate and I need to strip, no, fuck that.

I suppose that having been homeless, jobless, sacrificing a job to maintain my dignity is no big deal. Doesn't mean that I would walk at the drop of a hat, but certainly at the request to drop trou.

There have been times when I've really enjoyed exercising the power of not just No, but Hell No.

Edited on Sat Feb-28-09 10:43 PM by HillbillyBob
I am unemployed and disabled. When I was working in 'reich to work' states you could be fired for any reason and no reason . Right to work state laws need to be tossed into the dustbin with the rpigs that forced them on labor.
As to the nekid part no I would not ever do this on a call from corporate.

15. I missed the original post but I think I've pieced this together
Someone called a KFC pretending to be from corporate and told the employees to get naked, go outside and pee on each other.

And they fucking did it.

I'm sorry but regardless of how tough times may be there is a level of human dignity that most people would never sink below. I can't imagine anytime in my life when I had so little self respect that I would have allowed myself to be forced to do something so degrading. Especially not for some goddamn minimum wage burger flipping job. Even at 16 I had more brains than that.

I feel bad for these kids but they need to grow a frickin backbone and learn to tell real calls from fake ones. Or the rest of their lives will be basically shit. They will probably grow up to be ditto heads.

27. Where are the protests?

People all over the world are protesting bailouts of their country to the banksters with their tax money. Their citizens stand up, let their government know that they don't like their taxes being used for this purpose.

Where are the protesters in America? Do most Americans understand we are getting poorer by the day with more and more bailouts to the banksters with our tax money?

Or maybe workers have been bullied into thinking that protesting is not a worthy cause?

21. Most companies (I hope) have policies in place to prevent this sort of thing.
If someone called the store I work in claiming to be from corporate and telling us to do some wacky shit, the first thing we do is say "Yeah, let me get back to you on that." The *we* call corporate and ask for confirmation from the appropriate person. Just because some schmuck on the phone says they're from corporate doesn't mean you run out in the parking lot and start peeing on each other.

The people at that KFC may very well not be the sharpest drumsticks in the bucket, but they certainly didn't receive the training that they deserved.

Embarrassing for them, shameful for the company.

25. Jesus, try reading the story.
Here's one: http://www.bostonherald.com/news/national/northeast/view.bg?articleid=1155223&srvc=home&position=emailed

The story is that the guy convinced the manager to "test" the fire suppression system, which released a chemical powder. The caller then told her they'd been "contaminated," and that they had to go outside, strip naked and pee on each other as a "decontamination" procedure.

In other words, their jobs weren't threatened at any point. They though they'd been poisoned and were panicking. This could have happened anytime, and has not a fucking thing to do with the economic downturn.

Sheesh.
