1980's - The Disaster Decade.
Edited on Sun Mar-01-09 10:58 AM by denem
(expanding on something I scribbled in The Lounge)

As the death nell for Reagonomics is sounding, I'm looking back on the decade before the internet. What stands out for me how poverty, desperation, despair, and desolation dissapered from view as the old staples of greed and war stepped out in 'brand new drag': The shiny shiny stick new romance of quick money and quicker death. You're fucked so shoot up a flux capacitor. Material Girls meet Mr.'Greed is Good' esq.. How were we? I'm asking The Prince and The Boss.

1999

I was dreamin when I wrote this
Forgive me if it goes astray
But when I woke up this mornin
Coulda sworn it was judgment day
The sky was all purple,
There were people runnin everywhere
Tryin 2 run from the destruction,
U know I didnt even care

cuz they say two thousand zero zero party over,
Oops out of time
So tonight Im gonna party like its 1999

Dancing in the Dark

Message keeps getting clearer, radios on and Im moving round the place
I check myself out in the mirror I wanna change my clothes my hair my face
Man I aint getting nowhere just sitting in a dump like this
Theres something happening somewhere baby I just know that there

You cant start a fire, you cant start a fire without a spark
This guns for hire even if were just dancing in the dark

Under a blood red sky of 'we gunna die tommorra', show me the sex, the party, the money and I'm on board this Road to Nowhere. Yuppie!!! Poverty, Desperation, Despair, War, look the other way, salve your conscience with Live Aid, party on dudes AND DON'T MENTION AIDS.

The boomers cashed in their chips and "U know I didnt even care". We were all fucked.

6. Reagoon legacy: Rolling recessions, rise of the homeless, the demise of savings & loans,
to name but a very few.
