NY Post fires its "only Dem" Liz SMITH, who fires back at "those Australians" to Mistah KURTZ
Edited on Sun Mar-01-09 11:27 AM by UTUSN
Ms SMITH has often called herself, "the only Democrat at the NY Post" and "a FOB ("Friend of Bill (CLINTON)." Yet, she and her wingnut co-workers, The-oldest-"Cindy"-in-the-world ADAMS and Page Six's Alex-BALDWIN-hating (or scorned?!1) Richard JOHNSON, seemed to fit together well back in their E!1 network gig, and frequently ran political tidbits that were journalistically sound and ahead of the "more respectable venues".

Today she lashed right back at NewsCorp/Post, saying to Mistah KURTZ that she never fit in with her editor because she's not mean enough, that "those Australians" don't love/"get" New York, that, while she now blogs, the internet is a Wild West spot of factual unreliability (no editors).

Maxims: "Gossip" does not equate with UNtruth (OR "triviality" for that matter). Exemplars like Kitty KELLEY (her books on Nancy RAYGUN and SINATRA) are meticulous journalists, WAY beyond Tweety and his ilk. (I firmly believe KELLEY was pressured by her publishers and the media to pull her punches in her book about the B.F.E.E.)

Ms SMITH is the one that SINATRA flung $2 at while calling her a $2 whore in a very public setting. Today she told Mistah KURTZ that Sean PENN ran away from her when introduced recently, and KURTZ rhetorically asked, "How often does THAT happen!1"

Well, she's 86. A couple of years ago guesting on the Tony DANZA show she made her entrance mistakenly ambling to the host's chair.

Fired? Liz Smith Didn't Drink Enough With Col Allan

By Sharon Waxman

.... Smith had been butting heads with Post editor Col Allan for a year. Her style – more celebrity back-slapping than back-stabbing – didn’t mesh with his. ....

So, despite the apparent demise of Defamer this week, mean has become the way to go in the world of gossip. Perez Hilton, with his graffiti-laden celebs, rules. The days of genteel party chatter are over. ....

Apparently that talent has gone out of style. Asked if she was angry, Smith said: “I’ve gotten over it. I’ve been dealing with him for a year. This guy, Col Allan, I’m just not his cup of tea, I never was. He’s the boss. He’s entitled to not want me if he doesn’t.” ....

THE PROBLEM WITH A DISCLAIMER is its coming off as defensive, especially when it's preemptive. Trouble is, it's damned if do/don't: NOT including it first results in the predictable problems.

DISCLAIMER re: linking to the NY Post (for to head-off highly predictable, OT/hijacking posts):: Yes, it is a RAG. Yes, it is owned by NewsCorp/Faux's MURDOCH. No, he doesn't Dictaphone content to his gossip columnists. No, "gossip" does NOT equate to "UNtruth." These old time gossipers are more journalists and reliable than Tweety and such ilk. Frequently, political tidbits are here first, later to show up in more "respectable" venues. Keep friends close, enemies closer. Cherrypicking intel results in self-fulfilling FALSENESS. I got hooked on these gossipers when they were on the E!1 network and, when they were cancelled, tracked them down and they happened to be at the RAG (NY Post). ALL I read at the RAG are the gossip and the horoscope.
