Report: Detroit Lion, 2 other NFL players missing off Gulf coast
http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090301/METRO/903010314

DETROIT -- The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a missing fishing boat in the Gulf of Mexico near Clearwater, Fla., according to Detroit News reporting partner WXYZ-TV.

Three NFL players, including one member of the Detroit Lions, reportedly are passengers on the boat, a dispatcher told ABC television affiliate in Tampa.

Lions spokesman Bill Keenist said the team is aware of the media report and trying to gather more information.

According to the report, Coast Guard officials are searching for a 21-foot fishing boat that left Clearwater Pass on Saturday about 6:30 a.m. with four people on board. The boaters were expected back last night but never returned, and they were reported missing by a friend, who called the Coast Guard at about 1:30 a.m.

Coast Guard crews are searching a 750-square-mile area west of Clearwater Pass.

12. Not funny
A young Patriots player died in a jet ski accident on Lake Ponchartrain a couple of years ago. There's nothing funny about a 23 or 24 year old with their life ahead of them dying in an accident.

2. Clearwater. FL, that's the home of the Scientology
mother ship of a headquarters. I hope they turn up safely, but that is an interesting coincidence.

10. You are obviously not aware of the battles in that city
and how the cult co opted the government, the police force and how that fight became a classic case of corruption.

That cult demonstrated that they are capable of anything, and thus it is ironic how their situation which could be caused by such a broad range of possibilities happened there.

In fact, as enemies of that cult who make themselves known through activism put their lives in jeopardy with no local law enforcement that would do anything about it could easily die in a boating accident there, the sense of irony this story gives me is well placed.

In any event, I did not say the cultists were and are responsible for their disappearance, I remembered the video and documents I have seen when I read in depth about the cult war there.

And then I commented on the irony. So what's your point? That a little knowledge about that really bizarre battle which has and to some extent is still taking place there is a dangerous thing?

I can't wait to hear how you answer that.

14. Irony always has an element of subjectiveness to it.
Edited on Sun Mar-01-09 04:19 PM by Ferret Mike
And the dismissive is a tactic when one does not know what the other speaks of and has zero interest in knowing about.

Hey DS1, nobody cares if you don't want to know about that particular political battle which is a key element to the political fabric of that city. And if you want to exchange flames, respond. I am well experienced at knowing how to handle spats like you start here rhetorically.

Your core inference of course is that mine is a post of an unassociated triviality. Mu musing was subjective in nature, so drop it. Unless you want to flame in a way that begs reciprocity; in which case go right ahead. It doesn't bother me even remotely.

Thanks for sharing, in any case. Sure sorry if you are just in a bad mood and need to lash out at someone. And if so I hope it was not precipitated by something important in your life happening like having your goldfish die or something like that.

16. What's the coincidence?
Is everything that happens in Clearwater a coincidence because they have a Scientology headquarters?

If I told you my uncle bought a head of lettuce last night in Clearwater, would that be an interesting coincidence?

19. It's more then 'A' Scientology Hq, and they destroy more lives
then a boating accident. It is an interesting contrast in irony. People lose their wealth, ability to think for themselves and even lives in this horrible cult and because it is too complex and a topic without the natural concern and interest a boating accident where young and talented sports figures are in jeopardy, nobody wants to bother to care about this.

Opposition to Scientology brings activists up against very dangerous men and woman who are more then glad to hurt or destroy them for exposing the crimes and problems they are guilty of.

I don't give a damn if you don't like my musings here, and it is not requisite for you to understand where I am coming from. Go look at the video news stories and documents of the struggles there and in other aspects of that cult that has a headquarters there and then tell me I am full if shit to express my musings.

Then I might find your point worth noting.

I hope they find the rest of those lost at sea after this accident, but I also hope someday thee rape of human minds and crippling of the future of thousands of people people can end by bringing about the unconditional destruction of this toxic cult.

4. It can be a bitch to break down on a small boat - particularly if you lose the radio
Edited on Sun Mar-01-09 02:13 PM by ThomWV
We spent years fishing off shore from our small boat and you really have to make sure your radio(s) are good and more particularly your antennas. I only broke down (small electrical fire) off shore* once but we contacted the CG immediately and not only had a tow on the way within minutes but also were quickly approached by larger craft who insured our safety until official help arrived.

People help people out there if they can.

5. 35 miles off Cape Hatteras in a 23 foot boat. Now that's a ways out there, Thom.
My personal best is 24 miles off Cape Lookout in a 19'er (or personal worst might be most appropriate).

I hope those guys are okay. There was no mention of heavy seas. If they didn't capsize they should be found soon enough.

9. Gale warnings and small craft advisories
have been out in the northern gulf all weekend. I see that the SCA extends that far south so a 21' center console would be pretty iffy in that.

13. the Gulf of Mexico in this area is very fickle this time of year
why anyone would venture offshore further than a few miles is beyond me. Grouper fishing is closed at present and the grunts and snapper can be caught in closer. I hope they get rescued but a 21 foot boat with 10 ft seas in the bathtub called the Gulf is not a pleasent thought at all.
