Is RIAA a victim of the recession too?
www.hypebot.com/hypebot/2009/02/is-the-.html

There is no doubt that major staff reductions and changes are underway at the RIAA. But one seemingly knowledgeable but unconfirmed source tells Hypebot that the cuts run much deeper than previously reported.

RIAA "It is about 90-100+ people across the US and global offices - anti-piracy, coordinated IFPI/BPI etc - trust me it's a bloodbath...

(Major label heads) Hands, Morris are squeezing the ____ out of these guys after the ISP failure and a major budget cut. (The) RIAA as you know it is probably history by Tuesday of next week, a formal announcement is being drafted for drop next week.

Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch, but who will go around attacking their consumers now?

2. No, they're a victim of their own evil.
Majorly piss off the people who buy your product and your sales are going to go down, recession or not. Not to mention that a lot of their product sucks.

3. one can only hope RIAA slides into epic fail mode
they are a pox on the music industry, IMO.

When I was in college, making compilation tapes for people was very popular. Sometimes they were themed, sometimes funny, sometimes dark. Spreading an artists music like that is, in essence, free advertising for the artist. I can't see why someone wouldn't want their work widely played.

It's a sad commentary on our society that this act has become a crime.

4. A couple of years ago, while visiting another site
I got the heads up about and visited a peculiar website.

One where they had the listed names of thousands of minor artists, some of whom such as '3mustaphas3' I recognized, saying that if they contacted them in somewhat less than 24 hours they would get the royalties that the RIAA and others were saving up for them. If they didn't reply they would have forfeited these royalties.

This was the internet equivalent of dumping the notice in the back of the Nevada City Penny Saver.

May every penny these bastards have extracted come back to choke them.

6. That's what happens when ya try to kill off rock & roll.
Bring it back (yet again) and watch the music world wake up and remember what it's all about (yet again)!
