The REAL advocates of Liberty.
Rush the Scumdog Millionaire wraps himself around conservative values as protectors of the premises of America's founding...of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. He conveniently ignores the fact that the very word liberal is historically rooted in liberty and liberation. He won't tell anyone that being liberal is to promote utmost personal liberty and liberation within a greater context of interconnectedness, unity and cooperation. Conservatism, by the way, is inherently centered around carrying forward the status quo, and that does not necessarily equate with either liberty or responsibility. (Those years of Republican dominance should be clear proof of that.) And, it should be equally evident from the past few weeks that Republicans are far more aligned with reaction than action, for theirs is inherently a non-progressive worldview. So, I would ask the Rushes and Seans of the world, which of us really are the most reliable guardians of "life, liberty and he pursuit of happiness," not just for an elite few but for the greatest possible number of people? The answer, I think, is obvious.
