The news is a little schizophrenic this morning.
First up: Breaking news- the first infrastructure project under the stimulus plan was awarded today. They're going to fix a torn up stretch of highway in Maryland. Gonna put 60 people to work on it. Hooray!

Next story: Scandal! The stimulus package contains lots of earmarks. What are the earmarks for? Road repair! The bastards!

1. The idea of calling out road repair as "scandalous" ...
somehow captures a lot of what is wrong with political reporting in this country.

Those pork-mongering politicians! Keeping our roads repaired! The fucking nerve!

6. but that would mean that, to get around, you had to get
an SUV to drive ... to use the horrible roads, or just go off road ...

3. The stimulus package had zero "earmarks" in it
It had appropriations which are quite different. I am sorry that the place you get your news from doesn't know the difference. It sounds like they are not up to the task of informing truthfully.

4. The demonizing of the earmarks comes straight from the GOP strategy
