Ford sales dive 48 percent as auto slump continues

DETROIT (AP) -- Ford Motor Co. says its U.S. sales fell 48 percent in February, proof that huge rebates and low-interest financing aren't enough to entice fearful consumers to make a major purchase.

The Dearborn, Mich., automaker sold 99,060 vehicles last month, compared with 192,248 the same month in 2008. Other automakers report their sales later Tuesday.

In January, industrywide U.S. sales dropped to their worst monthly performance since December 1981. Many industry observers expect February's numbers to be worse.

1. I notice Ford got a line of credit from the government.
But GM and Chrysler get government bailouts.

However I am in favor of increasing their credit line if need be.

2. It is my understanding that GM and Chrysler received 'loans' not just bailout dollars.
I could be mistaken however...

3. Yes it was loans
I meant the language used in the media is different between Ford and GM.
