Belly up to the trough. Data is from CNN / Rick Sanchez

The most vocal Republican Governors in criticizing the “Pork” in Mr. Obama’s stimulus package are also the greatest beneficiaries of Federal spending. For each Federal tax dollar sent to Washington, these states receive:

Mississippi $2.02
Louisiana $1.85
Alaska $1.83
South Carolina $1.35
Idaho $1.19
Texas $0.97

I wish that I could invest a dollar and get $2.02 in return. Will the GOP’s hypocrisy never end? I have a feeling that they have just begun to defile themselves.

13. Because it costs what it costs to build roads, etc.
or whatever the federal money is directed towards, but there are fewer of us to divide into it, so the per capita looks really high.

For example, say a highway repair is going to cost $10 million. Divide that by 660,000 Alaskans, you get $15.15 per Alaskan. Divide it by 20 million New Yrokers or whatever, and it's only $.50.

It's not like Uncle Sam is just handing us all wads of cash up here.

Let those states wallow in poverty. Maybe eventually the people would wake up and stop sending fundamentalists and Republican ideologues to Washington to screw everybody else over.

Exactly. If things are to change, there need to be consequences for bad behavior.
And voting for a puke is really bad behavior.

But, as long as they continue to suck resources from the working Blue states, they will continue to be parasites.

23. Working Blue states?
You don't think we work here in the Red Reservation?

Looks to me like a blue state has the highest unemployment (Michigan) and a red state (Wyoming) has the lowest.

Looks like everyone is hurting all over.

16. So my kids are supposed to suffer - and the kids of the 43 percent of
us Dems who didn't vote for "fundamentalists" in, say, Tennessee, are supposed to suffer so you can ride your high horse?

Some progressive. :eyes:

My opinion is that we point out this hypocrisy to the voters - not starve them to death.

24. Sorry- but that's how it ought to be done
It's insane to reward states whose representatives oppose the plans with the highest returns. That's the opposite of a carrot and stick approach.

to happen. Think its rather Freeperish myself. Those that can afford to pay the taxes provide services for those that cannot. That is the one of the guiding principles of the Progressive movement JMO.

She said "people who live in glass houses are having boulders rain down on them"

The leader of the Republican Party is taking twice as much as the leader of the Democatic party.

31. Have you been to the MS Gulf Coast or Southern Louisiana?
Hurricane Katrina washed ashore 3 1/2 years ago, but if you were to drive down Hwy 90 in Mississippi you would think it had been less than one year ago. Same thing with many parts of southern Louisiana - the effects of both Hurricanes Katrina and Rita are still highly visible.

And this doesn't even include the legacy of poverty as a result of the treatment of the deep south by the federal government after the Civil War.

33. Have you been to Detroit?
Areas of Detroit look just as bad as the areas hit by Hurricane Katrina. It's fine to help areas that need it but the assistance is not fairly distributed. The states that receive more federal money than they send to the government are almost all red states. The states the pay more in federal taxes than they receive are almost all blue states. Blue states need the money just as much as red states.
