My reaction is "explain that to this kid's parents." They're going to be in agony, every day, for the rest of their lives. I'm sorry..."sacking" doesn't seem like enough.

Marines sack four over deadly plane crash

The Marine Corps has sacked four top officers of a California-based fighter squadron over the December crash of a fighter jet that slammed into a San Diego neighborhood, the service said Tuesday. Deferred maintenance and faulty decisions by the pilot and squadron members on the ground contributed to the crash, an investigation concluded. 1. Deferred maintenance?
Good grief. They don't just defer maintenance on a whim. I worked around military aircraft for a decade. (Air Force and Navy.) Maintenance schedules were rigidly followed. Always. The risks involved in violation of procedures is just unacceptably high, to safety and to careers.

Either the unit commander was criminally negligent, or symptomatic of something really, really wrong systematically.

2. That's what I'm saying..."criminal negligence."
Taking away their jobs is a start. Charges for criminal negligence should immediately follow.

3. They aren't budgeted enough?
We spend more on our defense budget every fucking year than the rest of the world. Combined. And the Marines can't follow a goddam maintenance schedule for their toys? I believe the Commandant's testicles belong in a jar on the Yoon family mantel.
