1. I really do believe that Rush hates and despises himself more than anyone.

He knows he's an unattractive (physically and otherwise) person.

He has to face himself every day, and hates what he sees, but doesn't know how to go about changing anything. All he has going for himself is his money, and if he doesn't hold on to his listeners, he'll have nothing.

So, he's stuck. I'm not really sure he's intelligent enough to recognize this fact, but there is an inner turmoil that he cannot extinguish.

For all the hatred that Rush spews out on a daily basis, subconsciously he's directing most of it at himself.

I think that must have been true, once, but Rush has been worshiped as a god for over a decade. However shaky his self-esteem used to be, he may be quite happy fleecing the rubes. He would only feel "stuck" if he had a conscience, and I see no evidence of one of those in him.

He may not actually hate anyone. Hate is merely the tool he uses to keep the money rolling in. The ones who are stuck, with the inner turmoil, are the listeners who ensure he lives as royalty.

They do indeed growl, bark, and talk real tough. Where do they do this? In a sealed radio studio with only paid toadies and sycophants on hand, or in a carefully culled room full of like-minded performing seals, barking and clapping on command. They're never in an uncontrolled environment, and never where they have to take the chance of being in anything approaching a fair fight.

About how they could lose their job, etc. They think that by pretending they are in control, they can avoid all those things. This is why they blame the unfortunate for their predicaments. They simply want to believe this will never happen to them because they work hard, etc.
