One thing I hate about living in an area that's red as a baboon's ass is that many people assume
that EVERYBODY living there is red. :puke: I mean, they ASSume that you are Republican, that you voted for McCain, etc.

P.S.: If anyone is thinking, "Well, why don't you move?" see my post in this thread,

1. I live in a red county, but, since the city is blue, people don't
automatically assume that.

Actually, if you live in my neighborhood, it's automatically assumed that you're a Democrat, to be quite honest - and I live in East Tennessee, one of the most red places on earth. But my neighborhood is extremely blue.

2. Capt. Hilts has been trapped in a lot of Red States. It's great to be blue.
Red: SC, VA.
Blue: MD, RI, CT, Ontario

4. I lived in Myrtle Beach for a winter and everybody there ASSumed everyone else
was comfortable with the use of n****r. And when you objected, they started bitching about the civil war.

5. Well, I live in a very red county here in North Georgia.
But nobody could assume that I am a Republican. Not with the Obama/Biden sticker and all the anti-war stickers on my car.

6. Happens all the time
out in the real world and here on DU. I don't want to move. My life, business, family and friends are here.
Also, I can get along with most anyone and my family and friends are all liberals, so it's fine.
LOL - and my Unitarian Church is the largest in the USA, which is probably a backlash from all the fundies around.

7. Best tack to take in that sort of situation? Say "No POLITICS--it's against my religion!" if people
start shoving their views down your throat.

If they persist, just say "I am not interested in hearing people's political views. How about them Red Sox?"

You can't win by fighting with people who are diehard righties, you won't change minds, so it's best just to not even go there. Save your blood pressure and use your energies in a more positive fashion!

9. When we moved into our very red county
they had not elected a Dem to anything for decades. We went for Kerry and Obama big. We have a Dem state rep, and for the first time in anyone's memory a Democratic sheriff. So red now does not mean red for ever.

10. LOL Yup. And they are SO surprised when they find out you are DEM/Liberal
I have actually had people say things like: 'You can't be a Democrat! I LIKE you!' or 'You can't be a Liberal, you're a good neighbor (person, worker,...)' I smile and say 'yes, I try to be a good person, same as you. Perhaps you should listen less to Rush and pay attention to the people he lies about.'

11. I assume everyone I meet is blue until they open their mouth
and prove me wrong.

Even when traveling in the south, I just assume they are Democrats. It is funny to watch their reaction when I talk about "liberal" policies. My daughters tell me I need to stop baiting the morons.
