Is it time for Franken to take his case to the next level?
Time to go to the Circuit Court to put an end to Coleman's and the GOP's transparent effort to keep a Democrat from taking his rightfully won seat in the US Senate? Enough is enough already!

1. Reid needs to swear him in ASAP.
Regardless of where the courts stand. Franken won. It's time to move forward. This court shit could last years.

4. That would probably not be legal.
Edited on Wed Mar-04-09 12:58 PM by Occam Bandage
Franken has not been certified by the State of Minnesota as the winner yet, and cannot be until the legal challenges are over. It would be no more legal than if Harry Reid were to appoint any guy off the street as Senator from MN.

5. Actually Minnesotans need to take a stand.
and demand that their elected senator is seated immediately.

2. No. Franken has no reason to do so.
As soon as the legal proceedings end, Franken is certified and becomes the Senator from Minnesota. Adding an appeal would only draw things out.

7. Yes he does have a reason - the term of the ultimate winner is bleeding away
Legislation is being passed in which Minnesota has a diminished voice in crafting and the nation is denied its full compliment of Senators.

And appealing to a higher court would only give Norm an excuse
to present his entire case all over again, forcing a new court to hear and rule on each of his ridiculous challenges, each of his demands for more time, each of his grandstanding claims of disenfranchised voters.

6. Reid can't make Minnesota certify the election
And I would disagree if he tried. Reid may have say over the Senate, but he doesn't have any say about Minnesota.

9. They already did that
back in Jan. Reid can pull the trigger any time.

10. No, they didn't. The canvassing board certified the result,
but Minnesota law prevents certifying a winner until all legal challenges have been resolved. There's a difference, and it's unfortunate the word "certify" appears in both.

12. No, they actually haven't
Pawlenty (or however you spell it) has to certify the election, and so far he hasn't. They have to dispense with the lawsuits first. They finished the recount, and per the recount Franken won, but the election hasn't been certified by the Minnesota SOS yet.

13. My mistake
I saw that the board had certified it and jump to the conclusion that was all that was needed.

14. It is ridiculous how long it is taking
I understand the recount, and they should have done it no matter which one was ahead. But it was done, and Franken won. Norm is a loser. Go away Norm.

8. My hat is off to Republicans
They really know how to fight. Unlike the tuck-nuts-and-cluck corporate "Dems" that sit on their soft hands and let our Constitution, rights, and economy get ruined by corporatism.

15. Not until he has exhausted all regal remedies in the State Court
Once that is done, by all means. Of course, Coleman has the option to do the same.
