DUER'S seeking PROSECUTION of BUSH/CHENEY CRIMINALS check-in thread
This is not negotiable:
war crimes
war profiteering
espionage
murder for political reasons
crimes against humanity
treason
torture
unconstitutional laws, decrees and orders.

5. Prosecuting this scum is absolutely vital
and I hope the people digging through the chaff to find things like the memos released yesterday are putting together a big enough case to be tried first in the press with enough public outcry to force trials in Congress or the courts.

We can only get the rule of law back when we insist on having it for all.

It is time to consolidate the victory, concentrate public will and political capitol, keep the GOP demoralized and beatn, and for damn sure do not give them a martyr. I know this is not about vengance for most people, but the agenda is too important to risk by doing something like this that could backfire andd set us back 20 years.

I am not trolling, I really just think this is dumb, the potential for backfire is too great, it misreads the American people, who we are going to need in about 18 months to make sure we can grab total control of the Senate, then we can back bench them. From a pragmatic point of view, this allows the GOP to once more paint Liberals as nutty, divisive and, due to Bush's military ties, allows them to keep that pro military trump card. I was in the Navy, I can attest to Bush's popularity.Just wait.Revenge is a dish best served cold, my non Klingon friends.

I really do. This will not work. I said it now.We would be insane to push our luck, Wait till the second term,. A move like this could cost us Virginia in the election of 2010, and If i had to pick between Bush in jail and a second Obama administration, I go with reelection every time.

But I respect your viewpoint. I just want to avoid the kind of fight that FDR went through to increase the number of SC justices. It almost derailed the New Deal.I just want the future to be progressive, and I am not willing to risk that on the EXTREME off chance that Bush spends 1 day in jail. His record alone is punishment enough, he has to live with the idea of being vilified by history. I guess I am alone on this, but on a risk benefit analysis, from a pragmatic viewpoint, this is not worth it. Until December 2013.However, I respect your opinion, and would like to hear the counter arguments.

151. The polls
Americans are fickle, change positions in second and are easily manipulated by corporate media. Thye will pull out everything to save their boy.I understand it is the irght thing to do, but this is a case where the needs of the many ( a progressive society built upon liberal ideas) are out weighed by the dangers of eradicating that hope by pushing for this. Once more, I am not here to cause trouble, I am solidly progressive, but the cause is the most important to me. I would like to say I see your viewpoint, and respect it.

77. Not to be glib
But we are a political party, not Batman. Justice is not in the purview.I am all for going after the guy, but at a time and place when it is convenient, say when there are enough Dem. Senators to carry the motions through you are going to need for this. Forget the 3 crossovers you have to have,no southern or Midwest democratic law maker is going to get near this one. And they shouldn't the party needs them. FDR made a similar snafu when he tried to increase the number of supreme court justices. It almost killed the New Deal.

you are fairly spoken, and courteous: two things I value in a poster.

I hear your arguments and I they probably reflect the thinking of the administration. At the same time, it cannot be denied that these people are war criminals, soaked in the blood of innocent people. They turned our country into a dictatorship. There should be a reckoning.

I hope it turns out as you're saying, that in a second term they could prosecute. BUT:

What about the Statute of Limitiations I've been hearing about?

Are these criminals going to walk free, as the others have done in the past?

The idea of Bu$h's punishment being his knowing that everybody hates him just doesn't wash. He doesn't care.

I say again: there should be a reckoning.

152. Statue of limitations
Edited on Thu Mar-05-09 03:04 PM by rolltideroll
To quote Jimmy Mcnulty from the Wire, " The thing about murder, it stays murder" We are still charging Nazi's today. It can wait.I see how far we have come, I don't want to risk a reactionary backlash. We have millions of new voters, realizing the potential of our message. But they are like skittish animals, too much to soon will scare them off.Yes they are war criminals, and WERE a clear and present danger to our liberties. But look at these election results. 6 years and the Democrats, by virtue of our intelligence in not running off Hispanic voters, can demographically overtake the GOP in places like Georgia, Alabama ( Roll Tide!)and especially Mississippi, home of the largest African AMerican community in the nation. The GOP is staring right up at a demographic landslide. If I can be forgiven for crudity, the GOP base did not reproduce at a rate commensurate with our base. Ideological purity finished what population dynamics could not. Can you imagine a party that are faced with these daunting facts deciding to hole up and cut people out of the party? That is base insanity, and a failure on the part of supposed patriots to understand how democracy works. Top that off with total ignorance of the Separation of powers ( the president is relatively powerless on abortion, that is a Judicial Branch area) and, to be honest I don;'think they have ever heard of the equal protection clause of the 14th.Why do I say all this? They are going to be as dead as Jefferson Davis in 15 years. We are in the end game. Bush is big, but the last thing we want is for some of the white population to flee back to the re pubs because they view the Dem's as vindictive. IT is just not worth the risk.

Thanks for the kind words, I look forward to hearing your response.

EDIT Bump said that, not Jimmy.

aren't doing well is because the American public figured out finally that they are not a credible source of information which is why your argument is invalid.

If you are going to argue that the American people don;'t change their mind, or that polls are laughably wrong and easily manipulated, you are living in a fantasy land. You are correct in pointing out my over reliance on spell check.

nation to war until false pretenses, incredible abuses of power (i.e. politicizing the Attorney Generals office w/the firing of the U.S. Attorney's), and much, much, more. This is supposed to be a country that adheres to the rule of law. What happened during the Bush Administration was criminal, they should be imprisoned for the rest of their lives.....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omar_al-Bashir#War_crimes_charges

War crimes charges
Al-Bashir is accused of directing attacks against civilians in Darfur

On 14 July 2008, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Luis Moreno-Ocampo, alleged that al-Bashir bore individual criminal responsibility for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes committed since 2003 in Darfur.<6> The prosecutor accused al-Bashir of having “masterminded and implemented” a plan to destroy the three main ethnic groups, the Fur, Masalit and Zaghawa, with a campaign of murder, rape and deportation.

The ICC issued an arrest warrant for al-Bashir on 4 March 2009, indicting him on five counts of crimes against humanity (murder, extermination, forcible transfer, torture and rape) and two counts of war crimes (pillaging and intentionally directing attacks against civilians).<7><55> The court ruled that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute him for genocide.<8><56> However, one of the three judges wrote a dissenting opinion arguing that there were "reasonable grounds to believe that Omar Al Bashir has committed the crime of genocide".<56> Al-Bashir is the first sitting head of state ever indicted by the ICC.<8>

Al-Bashir has rejected the charges, saying "Whoever has visited Darfur, met officials and discovered their ethnicities and tribes ... will know that all of these things are lies."<57> The warrant will be delivered to the Sudanese government, which is unlikely to execute it as Sudan does not recognise the International Criminal Court.<8><58> The Sudanese government responded to the arrest warrants by expelling a number of international aid agencies, including Oxfam and Mercy Corps.<59>

Of course in his enthusiasm for attempting to legitimize every aspect of lawless US policies, B43 also refused to recognize the Rome Statute and the ICC.

Looking forward rather than backwards essentially means, Moving forward rather than backward.
And what we are moving forwards to is a permanent dictatorship inside the United States Government.

Either expose and prosecute it now or it WILL come back.
Nixon came back, worse than ever, Bush Sr. Came back,Worse than Nixon And George Dubya who suspended the Constitution for eight years WILL be back Permanently, unless they are stopped NOW.

This IS our second chance, This is our LAST chance !
Anything less than full disclosure and prosecution is setting up the ground work for the end
of our Constitutional Republic by flag waving religious extremist.

165. K&R. Let's keep posting this regularly, for as long as it takes.
Thanks, bob!

What happen to all the "tough on crime" conservatives? John Dean can't be the ONLY one, can he?

166. Long Overdue - Can Canadians Arrest Bush?
This is long overdue and the reason for half of the 30% still believing Bush lies is because "if they really did anything wrong, they would have been arrested or charged with something by now". Geesh. I'm sick of hearing that and trying to explain why not without democrats sounding like wimps. Half of the US doesn't realize how much the news is cooked and how much is left out - a trial would uncover a lot of that too and I don't expect it would be very popular.

Lesson for Obama: Clinton protected Bush Sr. and Reagan from criminal charges over the Iran/Contra affair, in an effort to be "bipartisan". Look what it got him. Not only that, but history was re-written, pardons and a lot of the same people (North, Contras) were back at the head of Washington D.C. in under eight years. Except one big difference; they learned lessons and got better at it.

Why can't Democrats learn lessons? Why can't they use controversy (negative or positive) to get their message out?

If Democrats let Bush and Cheney walk now, the US will have worse criminals in office by 2012.

I object to letting Bush and Cheney walk on moral grounds. I do not want to enable torture. I also expect US law to mean something other than a dual standard of justice and courts. They lied to Congress. They ignored something like 500 court orders. On and on ....
