Why the Truth Commission won't work and why this all will happen again...unless...
The underlining Truth about the Bush Administration is that everything they did was accomplished with the approval and blessings of Congress. Let that all sink in for a second.

The fake war with Iraq, stealing our Treasury, the addition of $5 trillion to our National Debt, the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, the signing statements, warrantless spying, deregulation, torture... was all VOTED in by our Congress or Congress did nothing to stop it.

And Congress knowingly violated the Constitution - and that did not stop them.

The Judiciary deliberately did not pursue obvious and severe violations of our laws and acts contrary to our Constitution.

The Supreme Court was never was presented cases that would have deem an illegal law illegal. (So, if you are picked up off the street and thrown into an prison and not afforded a lawyer and they threw away the key - well how could you 'sue' them?).

Our Media - the 4th estate - is under the control of their corporate masters as is our Congress. When the People are presented only propaganda - well that is the final nail in the coup d'état coffin.

And finally, we, the American people DID NOTHING. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing.

So what could/will a Truth Commission do? Enact a law or something? Right - another law that can be violated? See how this could happen again...

The only way to prevent this massive corruption and destruction of our Constitution - is to have a legitimate prosecution and trial of EVERYONE involved with these crimes. And if found guilty - they need to be sent to prison or executed.

If this is not done - it will happen again...

1. Of course. And that's why Pelosi's press releases are obscene.

Our Congress doesn't represent us. They don't care what we need, say or think. They get no consequences when they don't do their job.

I know there are good Democrats in Congress. But, they are still in the minority.

Leahy's "Truth Commission" will not commit truth. We have to continue to demand that the Justice Department move. And that won't be easy because Bush killed the DoJ and because there are too many ramifications for people who actually do their job.

Did anyone hear Obama come down on bad Defense contracts? I actually felt afraid when he said that. He's now messing with the establishment's bread and butter. And for him to do that is every bit, if not more, dangerous than trying to prosecute the torture president.

2. One issue I have with your premise
First let me say I agree, I don't want a truth commission. I want a prosecution.

But your premise is that Congress approved everything Bush did. So my question is, how did Congress approve of torture and how did Congress approve of wiretapping of Americans without a warrant?

yes they approved the war. yes they approved many of the things that bush did. but I don't think they approved torture or wiretapping. i could see a defendant trying to rationalize that they did but i don't think the argument would hold water.

4. That's why I included the statement...
'and Congress did nothing to stop them"...

And allowing immunity for the Telecoms was legitimizing the unConstitutional Act of illegal wire taps...

Torture - there was enough 'evidence' to at least hold an inquiry...but they did not.

3. Bravo, SnoopDog
And it's my honor to supply the 5th Rec. Everything you say is correct,.... the part about the American people doing nothing literally freezes the blood,... and the implications of the whole affair suggest that, again, nothing will be done in government to reveal Bush administration crimes or to punish those responsible,... and certainly not to trace Bush criminality to the corporate overlords who comprise the de facto government of the nation.

5. Yes, and 300 million Americans....
...were to busy to care?

I must admit - I am one of those 300 million who did not do much... I wrote letters to Congress, LTTE, tried to elect Dems and pounding my keyboard here- but
I did not take to the streets... And I do hold myself responsible...

6. The Truth Commission is a cover-up ...
and a distraction, so the American people don't threaten their rulers.

And, just like the Warren Commission, there will be a mole to make certain that those who might want to expose the truth are silenced.

9. Ultimately, if we the people keep on pushing...
I think today, Senator Leahy or Senator Whitehouse, said that what happens with the Bush Crime Family ultimately
depends on we the people.

I really hate to say the obvious - we need to write and call these Senators, write LTTE, and be the town-crier.

10. Town crier would be a walk in the park,...
... compared to the "we the people" who stood their ground at Lexington and Concord.
