Fears of a Clown...(Excellent analysis of the fat man by Timothy Egan)
Nothing more needs to be said about the boy-buggering, drug-addled fat bag 'o shit.

Enjoy, link here: http://egan.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/03/04/fears-of-a-clown/?pagemode=print

Once upon a time, you could drive to the most remote reaches of the United States and escape Rush Limbaugh. But from the Mogollon Mountains of New Mexico to the Badlands of South Dakota, where only the delicious twang of a country tune or the high-pitched pleadings of a lone lunatic came over the AM dial, there is now the Mighty El Rushbo.

As someone who spends a lot of time on the road, I used to find Limbaugh to be an obnoxious but entertaining companion, his eruptions more reliable than Old Faithful. But now that Limbaugh has become something else — the face of the Republican Party, by a White House that has played him brilliantly — he has been transformed into car-wreck-quality spectacle, at once scary and sad.

Behold:

The sweaty, swollen man in the black, half-buttoned shirt who ranted for nearly 90 minutes Saturday at the Conservative Political Action Conference. He reiterated his desire to see the president of his country fail. He misstated the Constitution’s intent while accusing President Obama of “bastardizing” the document. He made fun of one man’s service in Vietnam, to laughter.

David Letterman compared him to an Eastern European gangster. But he looked more like a bouncer at a strip club who spent all his tips on one bad outfit. And for the Republican Party, Limbaugh has become very much a vice.

Smarter Republicans know he is not good for them. As the conservative writer David Frum said recently, “If you’re a talk radio host and you have five million who listen and there are 50 million who hate you, you make a nice living. If you’re a Republican party, you’re marginalized.”

*snip*

But Limbaugh has a fear of his own. If people see him purely as an “entertainer,” as Steele suggested, he will be exposed for what he is: a clown with a very large audience.

1. I remember Rush on MTP.
Russert had him on a long time ago. When he was confronted with his lies, Rush said "I'm an entertainer, I tell my listeners what they want to hear."

I wish we could find that clip and play it over and over.

2. Isn't it convenient how they can call themselves what they want
to escape reality?

4. I'll bet that was the last time Rush made that mistake. He doesn't
do interviews outside of the guaranteed cream puff love fests on FOX News.He obviously has a fear of having to back up his words and actions, typical of all bullies.

3. Great article...
..and a cornucopia of weight references that will excite, and inspire the weight crusaders who view the bloated mass of fetid, and oderous gelatin that surrounds his body as an innocent victim. I say you are judged by the company you keep, and since this particular mass chooses to cling to the body of an immoral, and hateful piece of garbage, it's fair game. Thanks.

description of unregulated American Capitalism I've read. Simple and devastatingly accurate.

6. Hate Radio...The Scourge Of The GOOP
The rushbo situation highlights a third rail that has been destroying the GOOP right under our eyes. Hate Radio. It's become the "golden megaphone" of the most extreme elements of that corrupt party. It has driven away any and all moderates or anyone with a common sense and forces their politicians to kow tow to these blowhards at the expense of reforming and rebuilding the party.

Any more Steele makes will be scrutinized as much on hate radio than it will here on DU...as will any repugnican who dares to compromise with any Democrat. Be an obstructionist and all the howl monkeys on the radio love you, dare to be a diplomat or go against the hard right and you're a tratior, the phones ring of the hooks and your name is dragged through the mud for hours on end. If you think their contempt at Steele is building, just look at how they're treating Senators Snowe and Collins.

In essence these goons are keeping that party locked in the 20th century...and a phony one at that. Until the party leadership gets some stones to stand up to their own rear guard, the party will never reach that middle 15% that win elections. But they're so in denial to realize it. This is the 21st century, a vast majority of Americans have moved on...the longer they spew the hate, the further behind and irrelevant they become.

7. My first encounter with Rush
Edited on Thu Mar-05-09 08:37 AM by radfringe
My first encounter with Rush on the radio was around 1990, and this was before Bill Clinton entered the primary race. I had a hard time trying to figure out if this was a serious talk show or show based on satire or just a big joke.

15 minutes into the show, I still couldn't figure it out - couldn't possibly be a serious show, this guy is totally off the wall - has to be satire or a comedy show I told myself, and I listened some more waiting for the "punch line". There was none. This was supposedly a "serious" talk show.

What kind of people would take this guy seriously? I twirled the radio dial, convinced this idiot wouldn't be on the radio for long - after all, how long can people listen to someone who just rants, raves and foams at the mouth day after day.

Well, I was wrong - he's still on the radio, still doing his one trick of "I'm right and everyone else is wrong".

Is rush an entertainer? No, he's someone who makes a living by shouting his opinion to anyone that has the stomach to listen. He's not an expert, he's not a consultant, and he has no experience in the field he talks about. Think of him as a fishing expert who has never fished in his life.

If the repubs want to follow a loud-mouth with a microphone, if they want to shape the future of their party based on the opinions of a chair jiggler - they will become the party of NO -- NO ideas and NO solutions. The only time you will hear the word "yes" from them will be "Yes, Rush".
