Suffice to say, don't get in the spa with your iPhone in your pocket, even if you realize it within seconds of it being submerged, it's a goner...although it now makes a great paperweight.

You still at ZOB?

does not cover getting in a spa with it in your pocket.

It also costs a hundred bucks - I figured I would take my chances and not buy the policy -

Edited on Thu Mar-05-09 01:26 PM by NNN0LHI
First thing is to get the battery out of the thing. After rinsing the phone with distilled water, remove as much water as possible then run ... don't walk ... to the nearest store and buy some of this stuff:

Pet Gold Crystals Premium Cat Litter

Fill a gallon sized zip lock bag with the cat litter and bury the phone in the cat litter for a day or two.

Put the battery back in and fire it up. Should be as good as new.

Did all that but buried it in rice. Still dead after 3 days...

I'm baking it now just for the hell of it.

The new one works fine...thank god for backups! :-)

31. A guy at work just bought a Chinese knockoff iPhone for $100.
Has slots for 2 sim cards, so you can use it on 2 networks if you like. Uses an 8G flash memory card instead of a hard drive. Looks just like an iPhone.

If mine died, I might try a knockoff.

40. Iphones
are made so you can't remove the battery. Oh, I'm sure that somehow you can get the thing apart but it is made to stay in one piece - which is not the best thing ever.

42. Contrary to popular belief, it's not the water itself that does the damage.
Edited on Thu Mar-05-09 05:33 PM by Evoman
Okay, yes it is, but as long as you don't turn it on once it has been submerged (i.e. fry it), a lot of electronic equipment is recoverable if you immediately take out the battery and let it dry. Rinsing with distilled or deionized water is not a bad idea as it makes sure that when the equipment drys off, no minerals or salts are left behind to fuck with your gizmo.

Good advice.

35. If you get your iPhone wet
Immediately turn it off, or if it's already off, leave it off. Then fill a zip-lock bag with dry white rice and let it sit in the sealed bag for about 24 hours. After that, it should work.

No joke, by the way. This worked for me. The rice absorbs all the water in the phone.

36. Did you
drop in in the loo?

Hmmmmm?

Well?

'cause I almost dropped mine in the loo a couple of days ago.

I also suggest you don't get any electronics wet. Ever.

The good thing is, you can buy another iPhone and restore it from your computer... being out about $300 and a day with no phone sucks though.

Then rinse them thoroughly with distilled water afterward.
