Bishop punishes mom for daughter's abortion
Brazilian to excommunicate her and doctors for allowing it

updated 45 minutes ago
RIO DE JANEIRO - A Roman Catholic archbishop says the abortion of twins carried by a 9-year-old girl who allegedly was raped by her stepfather means excommunication for the girl's mother and her doctors.

Despite the nature of the case, the church had to hold its line against abortion, Archbishop Jose Cardoso Sobrinho said in an interview aired Thursday by Globo television.

"The law of God is higher than any human laws," he said. "When a human law — that is, a law enacted by human legislators — is against the law of God, that law has no value. The adults who approved, who carried out this abortion have incurred excommunication."

2. I hope the mother and the doctor's religious beliefs have evolved to the point
where they are able to separate God from organized religion. Depending on how strictly you were raised, it is not always an easy difference for Catholics to make (I struggled with it when I was much younger).

What can you expect from a Church who made some women saints just because they died defending they hymens from infidels. Just once in "The Lives of the Saints" (Grandma gave it to me for First Communion) I would have liked to have seen the words "Virgin and Martyr" under a male saint's name.

6. I hope so too, otherwise this could just heap more devestation on them. (Which,
frankly, is one of the problems with religion in the first place. Heaping scorn and shame on people is just disgusting.)

4. I am happy
the poor little girl had an abortion. And very sorry she was raped.

As for the fucking dumb ass church? They are a bunch of idiots who would put a poor child through even more hell by forcing her to bare a child. Fuck them and the dumb, fake b.s. they grovel over.

7. The father who committed both incest and rape...has he, too been
excommunicated?

I swear to whatever, that these type of "religious leaders" are the very reason the Catholic Church should be scrubbed, beginning at the top, with a truly powerful exorcism; though I'll settle for criminal charges.

Catholics I know, do not for one minute support these types of punishments from the patriarchy.

This bastard just legitimized incest and rape for a select group of his followers.

Dammit! I hate this shit!

11. Any god who would force a 9 year old child
to endure pregnancy and childbirth and wreck her health for the rest of her life is not a god I want anything to do with.

And the church wonders why I stomped off in total disgust at the age of ten.

Shame on that church and shame on its pope.

13. At least they're consistent in their opposition to abortion...
they take the position that the child (or children in this case) is a gift from God, regardless of the nature of their conception. That said, I'm still in complete and total disagreement with their views.

16. Every day, in so many ways, poor countries are still being screwed by the Catholic Church.
My friend joined the peace corps and went to the Dominican Republic where he worked with a tiny village of sugar cane growers. Over time, after hearing all kinds of shocking ignorance from the people, he realizes that he should try to convince them that, yes, AIDS is real. Especially in a country that borders Haiti, fer chris sakes.

So, he planned a Saturday afternoon health discussion. He made posters, he provided refreshments and everyone who came had many questions that he answered to their satisfaction. He explained how to prevent the contraction of HIV with condoms, something that was met with skepticism.

The next day, the local priest heard about this gathering and later that week, he paid them a visit, telling them that my friend was lying and that they would go to hell if they used condoms. Well, when my friend heard this, he couldn't just let it go. Over the next two years, there was an ongoing battle between this priest and my 23 year old friend. Also, three young, unmarried girls found themselves pregnant, proving that they were still having sex just like any other teens all over the world. But without condoms. That would send them to hell.

So much needless suffering is on the hands of Catholics and fundies who have been meddling in the sex lives of Africans and South Americans.

It disgusts me.

Not, however, counting the sadistic fuck of a stepfather (assuming he's guilty). Unless he's brought over simply so we could apply harshest possible lawful penalty.
