Health care should be a RIGHT, like access to legal care and access to clean water.

But as the system is NOW - I'd say it IS a privilege that fewer and fewer are enjoying.

In Florida, the unemployment rates are double digits and many are going without health care. I have access to health insurance but because my spouse & I are over 50 and one of us has a "pre-existing condition," the annual cost for coverage starts at $17,800 for 2 of us (and that policy excludes the pre-existing condition for 5 YEARS). Being self-employed, we cannot afford to pay such a huge amount. Therefore we are always 1 major illness away from bankruptcy -- think about it.

The state legislature is grappling with huge budget deficits and the #1 budget item is healthcare expenses.

The US is the only major industrialized country without a single payer system of healthcare for it's citizens. How can our companies compete globally if the playing field is so uneven?

Obama is talking as I type about health care reform but meaningful healthcare, ie AFFORDABLE and AVAILABLE TO ALL healthcare will not happen if the corporate health care industry keeps buying off Congress. We must take the profit out of healthcare to have meaningful reform of the system.

him know about his comment. I just got off the phone after talking with a rep of Wamp's. I told her that people that are in the middle lower class and working poor don't feel that healthcare is a priviledge. I informed her that the difference between parties is one believes in helping the working poor and the other believes in helping themselves. I told her that her boss makes good money and get a good healthcare plan just like she does because they work for the government. I told her that my husband and I get good healthcare plan because he retired from the military and we get their medical coverage that was once free if you stayed in over 20 yrs and now we pay. I told her am fighting for the kid that is out there working and paying high cost of health care on a little above minimum wage.

If health care is a privelege, then anyone who can easily afford healt coverage without having to struggle for it must truly be a member of a priveleged class. 19. Just be glad that he's not your Rep. He's like herpes, we can't

get rid of him. Yes, he's serious. I called his office when his wife, Kim, had a kidney stone or some such, and she became incredibly ill. She went through the ER and recovered. He commented on just how fortunate they were to have insurance.

When I called I mentioned that I help to pay his salary and he gets to participate in federal health insurance and what about people who don't get paid by the government that he claims to hate, nor have access to insurance coverage through the gubmint.

I'll be calling again tomorrow with the same, plus requesting where I can get info. for all those millions who just refuse health care, and 'go nekkid', as he put it.

And then I'll have to mention that as a patriotic American, I'm sure he's going to lead the way in prosecuting John Yoo and his Constitution busting cohorts.
