Jeremiah Wright: Obama `like any other president'
By JAY REEVES, Associated Press Writer via sfgate.com

President Barack Obama's longtime minister, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, gave an assessment Thursday of his former congregant's short time in the White House: Obama is just like any other president. Speaking in a brief interview with The Associated Press before giving a speech at a civil rights landmark, Wright smiled at the mention of the name of the nation's first black president.

"He's like any other president," Wright said. "He's a politician and he's got to do what politicians do."

Wright's remarks were similar to those he made after his fiery preaching became a campaign issue last year, forcing Obama to distance himself from his longtime pastor at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.

During his address, Wright cautioned against putting too much faith in Obama. "Barack's name ain't Jesus. Barack ain't gonna improve your child's reading score. There are things we've got to do on our own," he said.

10. Speaking of ignorance, the man has multiple advanced degrees
and no one can touch him.

The question that should be raised is why AP is dragging him out now.

8. He's so jealous of his former parishoner,
that's obvious. And he is a man of considerable accomplishment in his own life. But, he's like the old high school football hero whose son grows up to win the Heisman.

I still remember his Bill Moyers interview - he was brilliant, thoughtful, articulate, a real delight.

The next day, at the National Press Club, he had Black Muslim bodyguards, and he was a perfect fool.

I wonder what happened.

9. Hasn't that phoney made enough money in the religion industry?
Why can't Wright just slink away and thank God for the riches He hath vouchsafed him?!!

14. The man said absolutely nothing wrong...
Obama is a politician. He will have to do what politicians do. Contrary to the knee jerk responses on this thread, Wright did not dis Obama in any way shape or form. And as for his Jesus remark? He's saying nothing that Obama has not said himself.

This site is becoming overwhelmed with gossip queens. As expected, the usual anti-intellectuals crawl out to give their insipid analysis of Wright's remarks and base that analysis on the corporate media who, not only has a vested interest in bringing down Obama, but demonizing voices that speak to the American experience in all its complexity, ... The are like suburban back-yard housewives in their curlers and housecoats.. "Ew, well yaknow, she's just jealous 'cause she's got a big tits."

15. I don't understand how any of us can read any AP story straight
after all the cr@P we've been treated to in the last eight years.

16. Sounds to me like he told the truth......AGAIN.
*WE* can solve our problems with a man like Barack Obama fighting for us at least some or most of the time. But if anyone thinks President Obama has free reign to just implement a progressive with list then they are going to be sadly disappointed. Politics is ALL ABOUT compromise. Yes, even sometimes making a deal with the devil with one hand and fighting like hell to never have to make a deal like that ever again.
