from the OneNewsNow "news" service of the American Family Assn:

IL school hosts homosexual dance
Pete Chagnon - OneNewsNow - 3/5/2009 7:20:00 AM

A pro-family advocate is calling for public schools to stop politicizing children and to focus more on education.

Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois, recently had their first homosexual dance sponsored by the Gay-Straight Alliance. The dance, which was open for homosexual students as well as their "allies" in the straight community, drew about 100 students.

Laurie Higgins, a spokesperson with the Illinois Family Institute, says one of the event's sponsors, English teacher Bill Fritz, had this to say.

"To see these students at the dance he said, and this is a quote, 'It was really touching. They were so proud of themselves.' And I think that that statement was really foolish," she points out.

Teachers should be educating children, not politicizing them, says Higgins. "These teachers are crossing boundaries. They are moving well outside the purview of their expertise and the reasons that they were hired, and they are trying to reform the beliefs and values of other people's children with their tax dollars," she adds. "And it's a very dark irony, but I think we need to wake up and start addressing this issue boldly no matter what comes our way."

Higgins believes conservatives contribute to this problem because many are too cowardly to address the situation for fear of retribution.

1. My kids high school has a very active gay-straigh alliance
My daughter and her friends were all very comfortable in being "out" there.

I wish more school were the same way.
