My husband just got his hours cut another 20% starting next week
On the plus side, we found out he can get unemployment benefits as an underemployed worker. On the not plus side, it just doesn't help my anxiety one bit to see this happen in our own house. I've never been happier to be a nurse, but even that could potentially slip away if this disaster becomes all the more disastrous.

1. I'm prayng for cut hours at my job if it gets worse here also. It's expensive to hire people and...
...companies are finding this out the hard way seeing that most people will take less money vs losing the whole job.

It goes back to great depression wage control but at least inflation can be seen to be checked for a short time.

3. I'm a NICU nurse in a facility that ends up with most of the rich folks
who can afford in vitro fertilization and those pregnancies always seem to end a little wonky and a little early. Yeah, I can retrain to work with the sick folk rather than the undercooked ones, but I love taking care of the preemies. It would be hard to let go of. But, I will do whatever it takes in this squirrely economy and I'll probably still be happy, as long as I'm a nurse and really, I am lucky, not only in my job security but that I have a job that is my personal calling.

7. I know how you feel
I worked for an Pediatric Orthopod who was a world expert on the treatment of ideopathic scoliosis.

The reward I got emotionally had to compete with the complete lack of respect I got professionally.
When one of the other staff surgeons referred to me as "his boy" to a colleague we had a brief chat, at the end of which he got my notice.

4. My wife is down to 3 day work weeks - from 5 days - lost 40%
of her paycheck now. She is so stressed when she comes home. They still expect her to get the same amount of work done (5 days worth) with 40% less time.

I hate to see her under all the strain.

5. Yep, that's what is happening to my husband
He lost one day a week two months ago and now he will be working 3 day work weeks, which we can still handle and having him apply for unemployment means the harder choices of food versus medications won't have to be made yet. I'm more worried about his company going belly up than he is, though. It's a company that sells one very esoteric product, very high end and expensive, bought by large corporations multinationally. It just seems like a very vulnerable business in this environment.

8. Ex-husband was cut 40%.
You hear a lot about the lay-offs but I wonder how many people this is happening to.

I am sorry to hear about your husband's job.

10. Six Governors are trying to block those kind of benefits
Part of the stimulus requires states to give benefits to part-time workers. That's one of the things these Republican Governors want to block, because they know their people will demand it after they figure out how helpful it is. Color of Change has an action alert on it.
