Back in the last century, at a certain land grant university (with an incredible basketball team these days), undergrads could learn about Indian Philosophy. The course provided information about several religions/philosophies of the Indian subcontinent. This writer had followed the strictures of Animal House, and needed 24 credits to graduate and attend law school. He took the course, a guaranteed "A," because of his love of learning.
Why has this any relevance today? One of those religions taught that there was only 1 mind in all of creation: yours. There was nothing else, just your beautiful mind - no reality. However, said mind needed something to keep it sane, so it invented a reality. But, since the invention was only sustained by the mind, it disappeared as the mind took another hit on the bong, or went thru a door, or turned a page.
Some people are like that - they believe that their beautiful minds are all that exist, and that other objects/persons/ideas are merely there for their amusement. People like, you know, Barbara Bush? And most Republicans?
Many people like that have crossed Placton's path. And now it seems that this is, and has been for some time, the ruling philosophy of the GOP. If you believe your world should only provide you and your ideas affirmation, you really are a believer in one of the most ancient of traditions: today's Republican Party.
