I've figured how to get Merlin to eat his vegetables (they are supposed to eat their Romaine lettuce) - the same way I get my kid to do it! I tell Merlin, "Before you get your crickets, in vitamin powder, you have to eat your lettuce (it's soaked in water to make sure they don't get dehydrated)!" It works every time. My hubby thinks I'm nuts. Hey, at least I haven't bought him a beardie-blanket yet (see www.beardeddragon.org - the store)!

Mr. lefty doesn't think that the cat is truly feral, but we'll see. I think it's male and it watches me through the window, but if I open the door he takes off. We'll see how that goes. I may try to feed him and see what happens.

corporate overloads. I was talking to my recovering republican mother last evening, and the coverage is irritating the hell out of her, too. I mentioned the First Lady serving meals yesterday and commented, "that's leading by example."

HAC actually seems terrified. I don't know if she's had a run in with this cat, or if it's because this cat is bringing 2 cats into her turf who usually just come around to fight with her, but she's spending more of her outside time on the roof. Former Australian Prime Minister Savages Geithner's Performance in the Asian Crisis

Paul Keating, former Austrailian Prime Minister, gave an assessment of Timothy Geithners' performance in the Asian crisis that is sharply at odds with US reports. According to Keating, Geither completely misread the nature of the crisis, that it was the result of hot money flight, but reverted to the standard IMF "country facing currency crisis" playbook, and made a bad situation worse.

In a speech to a closed gathering at the Lowy Institute in Sydney on Thursday, Paul Keating gave a starkly different account of Geithner's record in handling the Asian crisis: "Tim Geithner was the Treasury line officer who wrote the IMF program for Indonesia in 1997-98, which was to apply current account solutions to a capital account crisis."

In other words, Geithner fundamentally misdiagnosed the problem. And his misdiagnosis led to a dreadfully wrong prescription.

Keating continued: "Soeharto's government delivered 21 years of 7 per cent compound growth. It takes a gigantic fool to mess that up. But the IMF messed it up. The end result was the biggest fall in GDP in the 20th century. That dubious distinction went to Indonesia. And, of course, Soeharto lost power."
