What will replace the Republican Party?
As the GOP's Beavist and Buttheader factions swing wildly at each other while slip-sliding down the long embankment formed by the mud they have thrown, a question arises -- What name should we call the successor of this once proud Party?

My own vote is probably for something like Limbones or Whack-a-Doodles, but many other possibilities exist

2. If President Obama is a 2-term president, and I believe he will be,
the GOP will be even more diminished soon than it is now.

At the very least, after a defeat like last November's the Republicans would have to re-group.

To do that they need a rationale for the re-grouping and redefinition and some actual leaders who can drive the bus.

They got nothin'.

And the chair of the RNC is kowtowing to Rush Limbaugh. That's not an auspicious start to redefinition and renewal.

3. The replacement will in all probability be formed by the right wing of the Democratic Party,
at least if historical patterns hold true. Depending upon whether the DLCish wing of the party or the progressives control the DNC at the time of the split, the new right of center party might even have claim to the name "Democratic Party". It may be us who will be looking around for a new name.

Regardless, the Republicans have only a short while to turn themselves around, and they are showing no sign that they want to halt their decline into the kooky fringes of politics. Barring any sudden insight on their part, they're going the way of the Federalists and the Whigs.

4. Let's not get ahead of ourselves
The republican party will continue to be the political arm of Wall Street, Big Oil, Big Pharma, the rest of the corporate elite AND the wealthy, and those guys aren't going to let Limbaugh be any more than what he has always been -- a vote-getting machine for the "dumb constituency" .... policy-setting will remain with management, thank you,.. and what they or anyone else calls it is just window-dressing.

6. The "Patrician Party" of wealthy, mostly Caucasian, landowners.
They will attempt to amend the U.S. Constitution so that only those who own their homes or commercial real estate can vote in national elections.

7. Since we seem to need a two-party system
How about the Democratic Party, and the Socialist Party?

Leave the wingers and xtian coalition in the weeds.

8. People who think this way never go away
maybe, in a mock spirit of greeness they will recycle some of their older names - Federalist or Whigs or even Tory.

They will never go away that is just wishful thinking. Just as Delay, Limbaugh and Rove had dreams of destroying us forever that is just that, a dream.
