1. I despise the "time changes"
Pick a time (standard time/DST) .... I don't care which and leave it there.

Did I mention I despise the time changes?

42. Exactly.
If daylight savings time is supposed to save energy (the original intent), why not have it all year long? It's already 8 months out of the year.

I HATE the change.

93. Hear hear! Driving through "sun delays" six times a year sucks.
If we simply stayed on Summer Time, it would only happen twice
a year for most workers.

And even in the Winter, we often need the extra daylight at the end
of the day in order to move snow!

Just voted YES to even things up a little....
I do think it's a good idea, though - the sun's angle changes on the earth, so it's actually following a natural phenominon.
But it will suck on Monday morning.....

34. It's bad that it starts so early in the year. Used to be later. Now we'll be getting up in the dark
again for a month or so. I hate that. I want light in the morning when I get up.

I really don't care when it gets dark at night, except for those few weeks between DST and say early Feb. But morning is different. But then, I am a morning person...

The only drawback to going on DST is losing that hour overnight; it always takes me a few days to get readjusted. On balance, however, I'd rather have DST than remain on standard time year-round.

A study last year says that it costs too much energy dollars to start it this early. It also imperils pedestrians who are still slowed by icy conditions. Turning cars do not see them.

On edit: The 80-90 year olds in our building "sure hope they don't waste time on this right now with all the other problems we have."

Daylight saving time saves nothing. It is like cutting one end off a blanket and sewing it on the other to make it longer, The day is still 24 hours long no matter how you mangle the clocks.
I like these Einsteins that think the sun actually rises and sets an hour later with DST.

I have a very finely tuned internal clock and the time change wreaks havoc with it. The older I get, the longer it takes to adapt. Fall is easier on me than spring, though, for some odd reason.

41. It's funny you mention that. I'm a night owl too.
I did an impromptu, utterly non-scientific poll on the subject once at work. Someone was complaining about the fall time change, which I prefer. This person was a certified "day" person. A light bulb went off, so I went around quizzing folks. It split almost perfectly down that line: day people hated the fall change, night people hated the spring change. I think I had one outlier. Oh, and my sample size was about fifteen, so it was obviously a useless exercise LOL. But interesting nonetheless. Your reply just reminded me of that. Kinda cool.

Last year our state did standardized testing beginning on the first day of daylight savings time. I wonder how much it negatively affected scores. It takes your body DAYS to adjust to time changes.

If they set the clocks ahead 14 or 15 hours during the summer, I'd be OK with it.

If anything, in Texas during the summer, we should be waking up at 10pm, when the temperature begins to drop down to the mid 90's, and crashing at noon, when the most hellish part of the day begins.

84. DST year round for me
It's too dark too early here in the Northeast due to being up North and being way East in the time zone.

63. I hate it here in Texas.
Not just the adjustment to the change; but as the months move to summer, it will stay light and hot until after 9 pm. Ugh.

75. Clears our winter blues here in the NE
Perhaps y'all down South can opt out because it's essential for our mental health up here in the North.

65. I wish they would settle on a time and leave it.
I hate the time changes. I don't care which one it is, just stop changing it.

66. I can't stand Daylight Slaving Time!!!
or FMJ (Federally Mandated Jetlag) twice a year.

I seem to recall reading of studies that were done showing that it is psychologically detrimental to our mental health and puts unnessary stress on the physical body. Which lobbies push for this?

79. You can get the same effect by going to bed and waking an hour early
There's no need to change the clocks and you can do it year round if you like.

83. If only I could get my work to let me change by 1 hour
That's the real issue for me - I am NOT a morning person and I NEED my afternoon light to get work done around here. I don't expect you'll understand my thinking/mental-emotional state, but that's OK.

(6:00 a.m.). Now I'm back to getting up and out in the dark again.

81. Same here. Back to having drive to work in the dark, after finally getting some light.
Plus, by mid-summer, it will still be light when I have to go to bed -- no fun at all. :(

90. Not at the moment I don't. It takes me a while to adjust to the time change.
After a week or so I'll like it. I'm not a morning person so I appreciate the extra daylight in the evening hours.

My days are not the days of the week, bearing the stamp of any heathen deity, nor are they minced into hours and fretted by the ticking of a clock.

92. We don't follow it here in AZ.
They only effect we notice is that some cable shows are on an hour earlier. Not a big deal.
I don't have to change clocks, and I get to see the normal changes in the amount daylight during the year.

95. DST is pure folly.
Edited on Sun Mar-08-09 12:48 PM by trackfan
People on the Left and Right will complain endlessly about how much they hate big government, yet virtually 100% of the population will willingly acquiesce to having the government tell them it is noon when it is really an hour before noon. If you live anywhere in the vicinity of a rooster (that's a cock for you Brits - we're too babyish for that word in America), you know what folly DST is.

96. Where is the "Not just No but HELL NO!!" option?
We don't have it out here -- but our cable schedules are based on Pacific time, so in effect, everything just "fell back" an hour. In particular, the rerun of the previous night's Stewart and Colbert move from 6 and 6:30 (perfecto) to 5 and 5:30. I leave work at 5. I'm doing well to get home by 5:40. So DST just deported me from the Colbert Nation. :(
