I really don't care when it gets dark at night, except for those few weeks between DST and say early Feb. But morning is different. But then, I am a morning person...

I have to say I was taken by surprise to find out spring forward is tonight. I do like daylight savings, and definitely appreciate the extended evening light. The only drawback to going on DST is losing that hour overnight; it always takes me a few days to get readjusted. On balance, however, I'd rather have DST than remain on standard time year-round.

A study last year says that it costs too much energy dollars to start it this early. It also imperils pedestrians who are still slowed by icy conditions. Turning cars do not see them.

Daylight saving time saves nothing. It is like cutting one end off a blanket and sewing it on the other to make it longer, The day is still 24 hours long no matter how you mangle the clocks.

I did an impromptu, utterly non-scientific poll on the subject once at work. Someone was complaining about the fall time change, which I prefer. This person was a certified "day" person. A light bulb went off, so I went around quizzing folks. It split almost perfectly down that line: day people hated the fall change, night people hated the spring change. I think I had one outlier. Oh, and my sample size was about fifteen, so it was obviously a useless exercise LOL. But interesting nonetheless. Your reply just reminded me of that. Kinda cool.

Now, my furnace will need to kick on an hour earlier in the morning, my lights will be on earlier and my daughter will once again be leaving for school and be sitting in her first class in total darkness and in a sleep deprived haze. Last year our state did standardized testing beginning on the first day of daylight savings time. I wonder how much it negatively affected scores. It takes your body DAYS to adjust to time changes.

We don't have it out here -- but our cable schedules are based on Pacific time, so in effect, everything just "fell back" an hour. In particular, the rerun of the previous night's Stewart and Colbert move from 6 and 6:30 (perfecto) to 5 and 5:30. I leave work at 5. I'm doing well to get home by 5:40. So DST just deported me from the Colbert Nation. :(
