Christians marking their territory in Texas
You have wonder where the priorities are of some Christians in the Bay Area. Sagemont Church has decided to spend God knows how many hundreds of thousands of dollars on marking their territory with a 150 ft tall white cross. The cross is surrounded by a moat and illuminated with light at night.

2. HEY JESUS ....... REMEMBER THIS?
I never did understand why the symbol of torture and death is considered a holy icon. I do understand that it is, but it seems rude to keep bringing it up. Kind of like forcing the victim of a violent sexual crime to relive the experience for our gratification.

honoring Jesus with the cross to honoring JFK with the symbol of a rifle?

13. It is difficult to make sense out of isn't it?
I would be offended by anyone wearing a cross if I got crucified on one and somehow came back to life.

8. It was originally a fish
Don't know when it turned into the crucifix  I think probably when the church got mixxed up in the state. A cross is a more threatning symbol than a fish on shields.

As a Christian, I don't really focus too much on the crucification, I focus mostly on what Jesus had to say. All the cross is, is a reminder of what happened to him for saying it and a reminder to me that if I live by his example and speak against the system of the powerful I as well may face something similar.

I believe in the resurrection and the miracles so alot on here will jump all over me. It's my faith I'm secure in it.

15. That is kind of how I saw it too.

The symbol seems like some kind of a veiled threat. If you live like Christ, then this can or will happen to you.

Quote: I focus mostly on what Jesus had to say. All the cross is, is a reminder of what happened to him for saying it and a reminder to me that if I live by his example and speak against the system of the powerful I as well may face something similar. End Quote

Maybe the organization itself is trying to keep their members in line? It is a mystery for sure.

edit for spelling.

19. Real Christianity
Doesn't say if you don't sin, live by these moral rules, and pray when you should everything will be ok in life.

If anyone really understands Jesus they understand there was this guy who spoke out against the religous leaders of his time who were part of the government, asked people to be more forgiving towards one another and take care of each other, and the only way to live is to not be afraid to die for doing the right thing.

If I do the right thing, it doesn't mean I necessarily will get rewarded. There is a chance I will die for doing the right thing.

Ghandi got that, MLK got that, and Bobby Kennedy got that. Despite Ghandi not being a Christian he was one of the most Christ like men of the 20th century.

36. It's blood symbolism ...

It's the ancient world's version of waving the bloody shirt. As was said up-thread, this is all about the political value of a symbol. A fish doesn't quite do it.

But, it's not about threatening opponents directly so much as inspiring followers to develop a blood lust, which in turn is a threat to opposition.

3. They think the christian religion is great
and it makes them happy. They want everybody to see how great it is and how happy they are.
Sort of like decorating everything in sight with stickers of your favorite band, or whatever.

9. I'm a Christian
Edited on Sun Mar-08-09 08:46 PM by AllentownJake
its my faith. I'm willing to be persecuted and killed for it. Unlike the people down there I'm not willing to kill another human being to protect myself over it. I don't need a Giant Cross in my hometown for me to be secure in my faith.

5. Pffft! Slow pokes.
We've had a big-ass cross in the Panhandle for almost 20 years. Granted, it's only 90 feet tall but the high plains region is way flat so it shows up on the horizon a lot sooner. We win the Jesus wars.

How many people could have been fed, how many people could have recieved treatment for an addiction, and how many people could have gotten clothes...you know people...the thing that Jesus was really interested in.

because if they read their New Testament, they are doing the exact opposite of what they were told to do.

The symbol of your faith you are supposed to where is living a good life.

23. Its alot easier to set up moral rules that make you good and others bad
than to reflect upon yourself and how you could better serve. I believe those people were responsible for that symbol to begin with.

To reinforce the idea of only a chosen few? To force the infidels to die in the wilderness, shunned and locked out?

That's my theory.

Well, that will certainly help blot out the firmament of Heaven from human sight.

As if we don't already have enough wasteful light pollution on secular nonsense.

The Heavens declare the Glory of God, but Sagemont Church would rather we saw a creation of man than of God.

Guess they never read about "As you did it unto the Least of Them so also you did it unto Me".

Feeding the hungry, comforting the afflicted, clothing the naked.....all that stuff must not be in their Bible either.
