Credit card info for a brunch reservation?
Miz t. is on the phone with a local resort to make Sunday brunch reservations. A couple of our friends have birthdays and 3 couples are going to splurge a bit.

They asked her for a credit card to hold the reservations.
I've never heard of that before and I don't like it.
Is this the norm now?

2. A name used to work for a meal. Sounds weird to me, too,
unless you feisty folks were booking rooms. ;)

3. With restaurant sales down so much....
...you would think that they would be smarter than that.

That's absolutely ridiculous that someone would ask for a cc to make a brunch reservation!

What about the people who have paid off their debts, cut up their cards and are now debt free? What? I suppose
they'd just have to leave bank account numbers or fax in their tax returns.

Has the world gone entirely mad?

4. Most high-end restaurants require a cc for a reservation; pretty much standard practice here in LA.
Just make sure you're aware of the cancellation policy before you make them.

5. Yes, it is normal, especially when you have a large group

If you ask them why they'll tell you they will charge a cancellation fee if no one shows up. Restaurants don't survive without cash and a party of 6 or 9 take up the space of three or four regular two top tables and they usually linger longer. It's economics.

6. Normal here in Chicago, too, at upscale restaurants with parties of 6 or more
They don't want to risk you not showing up and being stuck with your empty table.

8. Thanks, all. Live and learn, I guess.
It's at the Marriott Grand Hotel in Point Clear, AL on Mobile bay.
They're a bit pricey, but well worth it if you have the moolah. The food, the service, and the view and surroundings are amazing.
It's fun to play 'rich' once in a great while.
