Fundies: Obama has opened "the floodgates for destruction of tiny human beings"
 Fundie drama queens are entertaining if nothing else

from the American Family Association's journal of fundie outrage, OneNewsNow:

As promised, Obama loosens funding on embryonic research
Charlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 3/9/2009 11:40:00 AM

Human embryo research is now supported by President Obama, who has decided to open the floodgates for destruction of tiny human beings.

Saying that scientific decisions should be based on facts, not ideology, Barack Obama has ended the Bush-era ban on federal funding for embryonic stem-cell research (ESCR). The president signed an executive order today lifting that ban, adding that strict guidelines will be developed to avoid misuse or abuse in the field -- such as human cloning.

Proponents of lifting the restrictions -- former First Lady Nancy Reagan among them -- have said ESCR could lead to better treatment and possible cures to various diseases, from diabetes to paralysis. But Dorinda Bordlee of the Bioethics Defense Fund points out human embryo research has produced not one cure or treatment for diseases.

"Actually what President Obama is now doing is taking the very extreme and ineffective track of using our tax dollars to pay for obsolete research that destroys human embryos," she says.

According to Bordlee, some people are about to get rich because of the president's executive order. "You'll see some scientists -- for example, at the Harvard stem cell lab -- who own patents on these embryonic stem-cell lines making a lot of money off of that, selling their embryonic stem-cell lines to other universities, to pharmaceutical companies."

Bordlee stresses that research on adult stem cells, which are readily available and do not involve the killing of a tiny human being, has already produced success in treatment of more than 70 diseases and conditions. ..........(more)

6. Hypocrites - where are the evangelical rescue stations for used condoms?
Lets lock the bible thumpers up in the alzheimer's wards of nursing homes for at least six months then they can tell us all about the quality of life we get for lack of scientific research.

7. The sad part is that if you got them to look at blastocysts
under a high powered microscope and said that's what was being used to cure sick people, they'd see tiny, perfect babies because that's what they've been trained to see, even though there is absolutely nothing that appears remotely human in a blastocyst.

There is nothing you can do with these people but try to march them back to the lunatic fringe. They're allowed to be crazy. We just don't want their insanity creeping into our laws.

8. Imagine if during WWII we knew about The Holocaust and all the things Hitler was doing...
Edited on Mon Mar-09-09 12:57 PM by Ian David
... and we passed a law saying that you cannot manufacture lampshades from human skin.

And then, rather than doing anything to stop Hitler or The Holocaust, you decided that people's health insurance would pay to have them sent to concentration camps.

As the fundie whack-jobs compare stem-cell research to The Holocaust, this should be a fair comparison by their standards.

The fundies say they believe stem-cell research is a holocaust, yet they protest against the lampshades, and not against the in-vitro fertilization clinics that the "lampshades" come from.

Because if the right-wing foot-soldiers of the Republicker base (who KKKarl Rove calls "the religious-crazies") were to mobilize against the Republick Party's financial backers (in this case, the pharmaceutical industries and people wealthy enough to afford IVF) there would be a civil war within their own party.

they could save and restore actual people's lives. Oh, I forgot, fundies don't care about the post-born.

10. Weren't these going to be thrown out anyways?
So if they're going to be thrown out because there's no one to implant them in, it makes more sense that their destruction has a purpose. But then I don't think our fundie friends would understand that even if you drew 'em a diagram or came up with enough one syllable words to explain the matter.

13. If embryos are persons with full civil rights, then they have the right to be BORN,
and that means forcing women to be implanted and bear them.

It cannot be perfectly ok to throw them in the trash, yet not ok to utilize them in a lab. Sorry, folks.
