Texas Voter Twister - Try It and see if you win (x-post from Texas and ER)
Hint - you can't win, hardly....

The Game That Ties You Up In Knots

In a democracy, voting should be easy. Hassle-free. A simple, rewarding experience. So why are voters being bound up with miles of red tape and bureaucratic hassles? Why are Republicans trying to make it harder to vote?

With SB 362, the Voter ID bill, Republicans will force Texas citizens to go through multiple contortions just to exercise their right to vote.

They had a large version of this at the press conference the Senators held this afternoon. Pretty good visual.

1. I don't know if it is still in the works, but TX repukes wanted to outlaw straight ticket
voting...WHY?? Because so many local level repukes were booted out of office when people started voting for a Dem on the national level and chose the straight ticket option. Dallas County is a perfect example..every election cycle (specifically the prez elections) they kicked more and more repukes out of local office. Heard some guy on TV who went to a Dallas County repuke gathering and said he saw that the repukes were all pouty cuz they no longer held a county wide office anymore.
Repukes are trying to eliminate the "coat tail" effect, basically.

3. That bill got a hearing in the Senate committee today
It's really very simple. They liked straight party voting when it benefited them. But now that the trend in Texas is moving to more Democrats using straight party, they want to get rid of it. Can't make anything easy for Democratic voters. :grr:

2. Man, WTF. I couldn't believe it when I first went to vote here. No wonder why we always lose.
How could we not?

4. Isn't that the point?
Voter suppression at its finest. They tell us "no one will be disenfranchised under this bill". Yeah right.

Texas has one of the highest rates of rejection of provisional ballots. Almost 78% last year in 2008. And with more provisional ballots being cast under stricter voter ID they can make it go higher. The Rs want to shoot for 100%.

Oh and guess who showed up at the Capitol today? Why none other than Karl Rove. Big coincidence right?

Rove lunches at Texas Capitol with Katharine Armstrong
By W. Gardner Selby

Karl Rove, the former senior White House adviser to George W. Bush, once routinely walked the corridors of the Texas Capitol. Rove was back today, stopping for lunch in the cafeteria in the Capitol Extension.

Lobbyist Katharine Armstrong, who offices near the Capitol, said she enjoyed catfish and rice with Rove and lawyer-lobbyist Kerry Cammack after she ruled a trip to the downtown Headliners Club out of order; she didn’t feel properly dressed for the high-rise club.
