Specter: ‘I think we’re on the brink of a depression.’
If this is a campaign ploy, why on earth would he think it'd work? Yes, scare your constituents more than they already are.

Specter: ‘I think we’re on the brink of a depression.’

Speaking to reporters in Harrisburg, PA, yesterday, Sen. Arlen Specter (R) issued this dire economic warning:

Our economic problems are enormously serious, more serious than is publicly disclosed. And I think we’re on the brink of a depression.

ABC News suggests, “Sen. Specter is fully aware of the vulnerability on his right flank which may be why he painted such a dire and mysterious economic outlook when speaking with reporters.”

...after s/he's already hit the ground and bounced a few times.

12. Maybe it's how he's trying to explain the fact that he voted

with the democrats on Obama's stimulus bill.

I think the plain truth is the best thing that can be told right now. Maybe the truth will wake the fools in the radical, obstructionist, hate based, GOP up and cause them to realize that if they don't change their sour grapes tune and help solve the country's problems, instead of creating still more problems and confusion, there won't be anything left to govern by 2012.

On the other hand, this guy has a history of saying one thing on an issue and voting the other way.

If he STILL has an (R) after his name, it's next to impossible for me to trust him or her.

Whether he's running or not -- the actual DEPRESSION going on RIGHT NOW needs to be acknowledged.

6. "more serious than is publicly disclosed"
Snort

I'm the all knowing Congress person who knows how bad it really is and even though I can't tell you, the people who would vote for me, I will say it is very bad. So vote for me so I can't tell you other important facts. But remember, it's really bad and I've been in Congress since forever and that's a long time of not telling you anything you really should know - but since knowing would scare you - let me just say, it is bad. It is very, very bad.

Maybe it's just me...

lololol

10. I'd say the economic problems he is talking about = bank balance sheets.
Nothing is transparent nowadays...who knows what each bank's vulnerabilities are? Maybe the Senate knows from Treasury more than they are telling us

I sincerely hope his office is getting deluged with calls from the unemployed in his area. And I hope they are ALL getting through to real people - and not voice mail madness.

17. The poisoner is always careful to mark his bottles
And considering Senator Grandstand's complicity in setting up this enormous financial mess, it's a cinch that he's privy to a lot more information than is generally known. So kind of him to volunteer this information as the bodies start hitting the floor. "Oh yes, there may have been some tampering with the entree. Do be caref--oh, well."

Perhaps he will now give us his studied opinion on the likelihood of the sun rising in the east.

21. I applaud Specter the Magic Bulletman's assessment...
It's completely true, and probably an underestimate of our problems. Many different sources have reported that the whole house of cards almost came down last year during September, and knowing what I do about this system, it makes sense to me.

Specter's one of those guys who'll say something honest, then turn right around and do something really douchey the next day. Just remember Gonzo. There wouldn't have been any hearings without Specter, on the other hand, they accomplished very little.
