Lest we forget...
Barack Obama came into office on January 20th, less than 2 months ago. The stock market was just above 7900. It had fallen from over 14,000 just over a year before. It lost over 6,000 points while George W Bush was President. In the middle of September, Bush and Paulson broke the bad news to us. The economic system, the entire system could collapse. They needed $700 billion to bailout the banks with no questions asked. Both candidates for President at that time, Obama and McCain, agreed with the bailout. It was necessary. In fact, McCain left the campaign trail to go back to Washington and try to fix the problem. The deficit when Bush left was $1.3 trillion dollars for this year. Unemployment had been rising for a year. In the last two months of the Bush Administration, there were over one million people unemployed. The economy was in free fall and the banks were going under. That is what Barack Obama inherited. Let us not forget.

1. But it's Clinton's fault, isn't it?
I thought everything that happened on Dipshit's watch was Clinton's fault?

You are absolutely right.

I am so sick of hearing people criticize Obama on the economy -- like there is a quick fix solution and that he has failed us.

Has any other President inherited a clusterfuck like the one Shrubby left Obama??

2. Yes...the clusterfuck that Carter inherited from Ford. It was actually worse.
Edited on Tue Mar-10-09 01:06 PM by tjwash
That was right on the heels of Nixon taking the U.S. off of the gold standard. There was runaway stagflation during Ford's short "term." and we had the added bonuses of oil embargoes from OPEC on top of it.

Fords idea of fixing the totally FUBAR economy:

Everybody wear these and "Whip Inflation Now"

Ford could have been the only guy that was less competent than GWB.
