Sen. Murkowski hurt in skiing tumble at Alyeska

U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski is back in Washington, D.C., and using a wheelchair while recovering from a knee injury suffered in a skiing accident Sunday at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood.

A spokesman for the Alaska Republican says Murkowski believes she tore two ligaments in her knee when she tumbled as much as 400 feet.

Spokesman Mike Brumas says Murkowski also is bruised and a little battered.

He says the senator is an expert skier who "somehow lost her traction" on the south face of Mount Alyeska.

Brumas says Murkowski caught a redeye flight back to Washington on Sunday night and was getting an MRI exam on Tuesday.
