Do YOU Get Even-Handed Radio Programming Where You Live?
I live in Atlanta, Georgia, and we go from one right-wing bloviator to the next, no matter which station we choose. 24-7. Unfair, unbalanced.

Is this the case across the country as well?

2. Not so much...
Here in Phoenix, AZ, but that has more to do with the incompetence of the radio station owners. Every couple of months a new progressive radio station will pop up, have a good run of about 6-7 months, and then fade away. The progressive radio station we have now doesn't even have the transmitting power to reach my house, and I'm not that far out in the suburbs.

6. You could be talking about Columbus, Ohio.
We just lost another liberal station last year, but it doesn't matter because you could only pick it up in the station's parking lot anyway. Meanwhile, the local right-wing station uses high power on a clear channel and can be heard in Wasilla.

LOL. Yeah, that is pretty much how the one out here is, I normally lose it everytime I drive underneath an overpass. I can't even get it inside my office and their transmitter is less than 5 miles from where I work.

Hell, even the local TV news on our CBS affiliate is a right-wing freakshow, Fux Noise should come down here and hire Kelly Ogle, he's fit right in with that bunch of fucktards.

4. The exact same in Indianapolis IN
It isn't even remotely close in scale. The right wingers populate our radio waves 24 hrs a day and vastly number the one or two liberal voices.

Each week in Indianapolis, the citizens are subjected to almost non-stop right wing lies and propaganda on AM radio.

7. I live right outside Washington DC
and there are NO progressive radio stations in the DC listening area. Not any more.

About a month ago Redskins owner Dan Snyder, who owns WWRC-1260AM, converted it from a Progressive Talk station to a station that broadcasts pre-recorded financial programming. No more Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, Randi Rhodes or Bill Press.

Dan-boy got rid of Thom Hartmann's show even earlier, and replaced him with the nasty-voiced Lionel, but now he's gone too.

Our local NPR station, WAMU 88.5 FM, is a frickin' joke.

I don't listen to much on the radio anymore. Car Talk and Wait, wait, don't tell me. Thats about it. I used to listen to a lot more talk radio but I stopped about a year ago because it was too right wing... almost insanely so... no, definitely insanely so. It had been that way for a long time but was even worse then usual because of the election. I don't expect it has gotten any better.

15. Yeah we just got our lone liberal Lynn Cullen back yesterday
on 860-AM. The only other liberals are Bev Smith on the same station and Chris Moore who gets a few hours on Sunday night on the otherwise 50,000 watt blowhard station.

Funny thing was Lynn got canned at the end of August just as the election went in to the final crucial months. Allegheny County went for Obama, though rest of SW PA went for McCain.

Thought local paper had an interesting editorial yesterday.

Who needs the Fairness Doctrine? The return of liberal talk radio host Lynn Cullen to the Pittsburgh airwaves after a six-month hiatus is good news for those looking for an alternative to conservative Rush Limbaugh and his less-talented imitators who dominate the market.

-----

When WPTT changed its format in August, Ms. Cullen lost her gig as a dependable progressive voice just as the presidential race was heating up. Suddenly, the overwhelmingly conservative slant of talk radio in the region took on an oppressive weight. The lack of ideological diversity was astonishing, given that Barack Obama's win in Pennsylvania was the key to winning the White House on election night.

It was a mystery why Pittsburgh didn't have at least one daily talk show host who reflected the views of those who voted for President Obama. When a local talk station replaced one set of conservative voices with another set after Mr. Obama's election, the mystery deepened.

To its credit, WAMO recognized an opportunity to capture an underserved segment of the area's talk audience. Ms. Cullen will bring new listeners and sponsors to the station. And WAMO now has a worthy lead-in to its popular "The Bev Smith Show."

Still, Ms. Cullen is only one liberal voice in a conservative echo chamber. With any luck, she'll be the first of many new alternatives.

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09068/954151-192.stm

Unless ratings tank for the local RW koolaid drinking hosts I don't give much hope to having more than Lynn on Pittsburgh radio.

But it seems to me that a LOT of fence-sitters are indoctrinated to the Dark Side by the one-dimensional onslaught that they are confronted with on a daily basis.

I know, I know, no one makes you listen to the drivel, but if all you have is an AM radio and 50 miles of pavement in front of you, there's sometimes no alternative but to listen to said drivel.

25. Nothing non-fascist in Philly. AA was on, very briefly, on a weak station. That ended after only
a few months.

If Philadelphia, as Democratic a city (except the far Northeast) as there is, cannot support (or is not given the chance to) a counter to the reich-wingers, it really does show that those with the money and power are doing everything they can to stifle any even-moderate message.

As a result, I never listen to the radio.

27. All hate radio in Kansas City. I find myself listening to sports stations just for the noise.
You'd think their audiences would have tired of them long, LONG ago, wouldn't you? Wouldn't you think some of them would start getting a sense there's something off a little bit when they realize they've been told since the 1980's how evil Democrats are, no matter which Democrat they're discussing, in an alleged two or multi-) party system?

Can anyone be that stupid, even a right-winger, he can live forever on hatred, suspicion, hallucinations, and rage?

Here's the line-up for our two major AM stations. 3RD one is Sports Radio, but even they occasionally get a dig in on liberals.

STATION 1
0600-0900 - Morning Show (pretty much a "cookie-cutter" local guy that is about 85% conservative.)
0900-1200 - Neal Bortz
1200-1500 - Rush
1500-1800 - Hannity
1800-2000 - Savage
2000 on - Who the Fuck cares

STATION 2
0600-0900 - Imus
0900-1200 - Glen Beck
1200-1400 - Tammy Bruce
1400-1500 - Laura Ingraham
1500-1700 - Dr Laura
1700-1900 - Mutual Fund Show

Hell, when I lived in "bluest of blue" California, I was driving down the 5 one day, and was in a spot where I could get Rush on 7 different AM stations, all about a second delay from each other. It was like being in time-delay hell.

with a smattering of local Conservative Limbaugh wannabee's. It would drive one crazy. And listening to "Clear Channel" canned music is the only other alternative. Unless one get's satellite...and even then..Air America is not what it started out to be...so there's almost nothing. And, NPR? Forget it! Anyone over 40 knows the difference in NPR as it once was and the quasi-Right it is today when it isn't promoting "fluff" that is.
