A guy in a store, delivering stuff, overheard me talking
to the shopkeeper about my looking forward to starting Medicare in a year and four months. The guy says, "Ha! You're not going to get Medicare until you're 70. Obama's gonna screw you, too. I bet you voted for him, too. Sucker!"

As far as I know nothing of the sort has been proposed, so where did this guy get his misinformation? One of the winger radio blabbers?

2. Congress already upped the age to retire with fuill benefits

To sixty seven for most of us. Maybe the delivery guy didn't hear the part about you being eligible in just a few months.

In any case, now that we as a society are taking on fully collateralizing all the failed financial insitutions in the world, I don't hold much stock in any government programs being viable in like three years or sooner. Wish that were not the cae (I depend on them myself these days) but sooner or later, the USA will run out of paper with which to print the currency.

7. If you wait until age 70
you get "delayed retirement credits", which means to me that full retirement benefits don't kick in until 70.

9. I'm not talking about SS retirement benefits. I'm getting those now.
I'm talking about Medicare.

13. Yep, I was signed up for Medicare at age 65, just 3 years ago. Nothing has changed that I know about
And if it had, the TV shows would be all over it! He's confusing it with SS benefits. I had to wait til I was 65 and 4 months before my first check arrived.

I woulda asked the guy to please give me the cite corroborating his "information." When he couldn't, I'd laugh and say, "Buddy, you need to get the facts. It's obvious you've been listening to LIES."

5. Well, I find that there was a proposal to raise the eligibility
age to 67, then 70, for Medicare, made in 1999. It failed in the House.

I can't find any more recent proposals. In any case, folks like me are going to get grandfathered in, since there's no time to plan anything else.

11. Haven't heard a thing about that
I do know that if you are on SSD, you are eligible for Medicare a year after your benefits start.
