1. Is it ever?
Have you ever heard Pearl Jam's cover of that song. . .?

It is really soul stirring.

It was on a Dylan tribute CD that came out about a decade ago or so and featured all sorts of great artists doing Dylan songs.

3. It's shown up on a few of their live CDS
I find myself thinking, "Yeah I totally agree with the sentiment, and is appropriate for our times, but it's so pedantic and lecture-y. He's done like 70 better songs." And then I feel guilty for thinking that.

I think his best protest song was the Lonesome Death of Hattie Carrol, which I love but not enough to look up and verify the name of. My favorite songs in general are "My Back Pages" and "Don't Think Twice, It's alright"

4. Bob's original recording of this...
is still the definitive version... it makes much more sense being sung by one, young, dishevelled, angry person relentlessly strumming his guitar and lashing out against the warmongers. As a group-sing type anthem this rant could sound a little overbearing and preachy. As a cry in the wilderness it works perfectly.
