Bristol Palin & Levi Johnston Break Off Engagement
Sarah Palin's 18-year-old daughter Bristol has reportedly broken off her engagement with Levi Johnston, the father of her 2-month-old son Tripp. It's surprising because in an interview just last month with FOX's Gretta Van Susteren, Bristol said the 19-year-old Levi is a hands-on dad and that they planned on marrying after finishing their education.

But in a new interview with Star Magazine, Levi's sister Mercede Johnston says Bristol actually broke up with Levi more than a month ago, is not attending school and rarely lets her baby daddy see their young son. Mercede also says Bristol even told him that she hates him and, when she learned she was pregnant, wished the baby wasn't his.

Mercede told Star: "Bristol's just crazy. That's the nicest way I can put it. She and Levi actually broke up a while ago!"

Apparently, Levi is also far from being a hands-on dad. Said Mercede: "Levi tries to visit Tripp every single day, but Bristol makes it nearly impossible for him. She tells him he can't take the baby to our house because she doesn't want him around 'white trash.' She treats him so badly!"

Sniping about 18 year-old single moms because of their parents political career is a progressive value, and we should be so proud of it.

she could have told her mom to fuck off and not appear with her, getting all that applause, free clothes, free trip etc, but she chose to support her and she's over 18 that makes her fair game as far as I am concerned...and I know a thing or two about it...I ran for US Congress and had my family under a microscope for 18 months, so I realize it comes with the territory.

100. With a mindset as immature and petty as that, I'm glad you did not succeed.
Expecting a vulnerable, pregnant 17-year-old girl to tell her mother to "fuck off" just because YOU happen to disagree with her politics is one of the more asinine displays of callowness in this thread.

102. But I did succeed...the aim was to cost the guy
a shitload of money which hopefully would prompt him to change his vote on the funding of the School of America's which in fact is exactly what happened after the election. As far as I am concerned, if an action as long as it isn't illegal wins an election or gains the liberal side some traction...tough shit go for it.

Being a governor is a lot of work. I do not like her politics but when one of two parents is a politician the other one should work less and spend more time with the kids. It is not right to call her a crappy mother, what did she do differently than the other 49 governors who work a lot and see little of their families? Come to think of it do you think Obama has as much time with his kids as he did before he took office? Is he a crappy father?

It doesn't have to do with the fact that she had a job. A lot of women with jobs are wonderful mothers. A lot of women who are politicians are probably also wonderful mothers. She is a crappy mother because she is a narcissist and the center of her own universe.

Unlike "regular" journalists, the tabloids are happy to pay informants. In our time, as always, money talks. Sometimes it lies, but it's never silent.

Granted, a lot of what they publish is nonsense, but I read the Washington Post and the NY Times on a daily basis, and they're no better.

16. World Exclusive: Bristol Palin's Bitter Split! (Star Magazine)
http://www.starmagazine.com/bristol_palin_levi_split/news/15341

The teen love affair that rocked last year's presidential race is over.

Sarah Palin's daughter, Bristol, has ditched her baby daddy, Levi Johnston!

Now's Levi's sister, Mercede is telling all exclusively to Star and the picture she paints of life in Wasilla, Alaska is not a pretty one. Bristol, 18, has virtually cut Levi out of the life of their two-month-old son Tripp.

"Levi tries to visit Tripp every single day, but Bristol makes it nearly impossible. She tells him he can't take the baby to our house because she doesn't want him around 'white trash'!" Bristol won't even allow him to watch the baby for a few hours -- unless he's babysitting!

The worst part, Mercede continues, is that the former vice presidential candidate supports Bristol's treatment of Levi, 19. "I used to love Sarah," Mercede says sadly. "But I've lost lots of respect for her."

Speaks volumes, doesn't it?

Unlike what's her name, Megan? McCain, who is IMHO, A Crashing Bore.

42. In Bristol's own words, from Feb 18th:
"VAN SUSTEREN: What are your plans?

BRISTOL: Eventually, we'd like to get married. We're focusing on, like, getting through school and just getting an education and stuff, getting a career going."

Which is pretty much "no, it's unlikely we'll ever get married", after:

13th Oct: "No, he's not being forced into a shotgun wedding with 17-year-old Bristol Palin.

"None of that's true," Johnston, 18, said in a brief interview with The Associated Press. "We both love each other. We both want to marry each other. And that's what we are going to do."
...
"We were planning on getting married a long time ago with or without the kid," he said. "That was the plan from the start."

While Johnston provided few details about next summer's wedding, the planning has started: A cousin will likely be his best man, and he has asked two hockey buddies, Ben Barber and Dane Wilson, to be groomsmen. "

"They planned on marrying after finishing their education" is not the same as "just getting an education and stuff, getting a career going". The former is a plan to marry; the latter is a plan not to, in the short-to-medium term.

She can't ask for privacy when she's going on national TV shows and discussing her private life.

If she wants privacy, both her and her family are the ones who have to take the lead.

49. I thought it might well happen.
Why would they wait so long after the kid was born to get hitched, if everything was hunky-dory? But, I'd hoped they wouldn't get married if they weren't getting on so well, just for the sake of being married. That would have been dismal (a lot of dismal marriages like that). I'm fiercely anti-Bible Barbie, but I won't visit my wrath unto the next generation.

It must have been hard having a public pregnancy like that. Maybe they'll change their minds and get back together, but that is a long shot. I would hope that couples counselling might be recommended for them. They have alot to work out since they are parents together.

62. Todd and Sarah and their kids
An inspiration to American families, indeed.

Sarah and Todd - shotgun wedding, a quickie, without even telling their parents.

Track - first child - given a choice between doing time and joining the Army - chose the Army - did he graduate from high school or is he GED?

Bristol - high school dropout, unwed mother.

Willow - quiet, caught in the middle - can you imagine the pressure on this poor girl?

Piper - a darling-looking child who was seen carrying a Vuitton tote during the campaign.

Trig - the prop baby, schlepped from place to place during the campaign when he should have been at home in his crib.

Yep, that's doin' it right, I'd say. At least there's no birth control or divorce, praise Jesus...........

63. If true
Second best damned thing that could have happened to that pair. I don't think they had the maturity to be decent roommates, let alone raise a family together.

Best thing that could have happened was that they avoided pregnancy in the first place. Of course, that would have involved parents who gave them adequate information about how to prevent it - not likely from the "Just say No!" crowd.

I gained enormous respect for Bristol when she pointed out how abstinence-only sex ed had failed her. For her mother, I have none.

88. You're right
The court would definitely side with him on visitation rights, unless there were some compelling reason not to. At worst, they'd require supervised visits. The overriding rationale is the well-being of the baby in having access to both parents, which is necessary for proper bonding.

93. People magazine is now reporting it as well
And CNN had the headline linking to People on its website.

Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston have broken up, two sources tell PEOPLE.

The split happened "a few weeks ago," according to a source close to the couple, but it's unclear what precipitated it. "It was a mutual thing," adds the source.

Bristol, the 18-year-old daughter of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, spoke with FOX News in February and told Greta Van Susteren that she and Levi – who are parents to 2-month-old son, Tripp – expected to get married after they completed high school.

"It kind of just happened," says the source, referring to the split. "I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp."

"I'm not sure what caused – it's common knowledge," says another source who knows the family.
