New Pro coercive sales to the elderly
Today I was putting a ten dollar bill in my newly diagnosed with Alzheimer's Mom's purse for church money when I noticed an ATM slip for 20.00 dated yesterday. She has no car so I asked her who brought her to the bank yesterday. She hesitated to say so I asked, "did you ride your broom" to make her laugh. Then she said "the New Pro man". I asked her where the paperwork was. She said in the safe.

Here's what she said happened yesterday. They called to ask if they could come to her house. She said "ok". At the house, they told her they could replace her gutters and downspouts for $4223.00 She said she couldn't pay the down payment because she had no checks. He got her into his car with him and they went to BOA and got him a bank check for $1393.00.

Today I went to that bank to stop payment on the check but it was already cashed. I talked to New Pro, who said they will refund her money if I send the cancellation papers within 2 days. I just overnighted it registered mail- along with my power of attorney papers and a note to never contact her again.(which is what we told the a year ago after they sold her lousy overpriced windows)

Here's the thing. We are considering bringing this to a lawyer and the Mass. attorney general. These salesmen are over the top. My feeling is this should be illegal--seems like almost kidnapping. I'm outraged and finally calm enough to write this letter. Any other ideas?

1. This makes me so angry!!!!
I'm sorry I don't have any ideas for you... but with a couple of elderly parents, I will be watching the responses you get.

Glad you were there to step in. Just think of the seniors who have no children to look after their best interest!!!

5. You're going to have to put her on an allowance and limit her access to her bank account
This will only get worse, all sorts of leaches show up when a person can't manage their money.

Definitely contact your state AG's office and if there's an elder care department contact them too for advice.

6. I'd contact the state Attorney General's office. If they don't have
the answer or direction you need, they will tell you who to contact.

Your situation is over the top. The state should know about this right away.
