The New Plague isn't the Bird Flu: It's Murder/Suicide
I have to eat crow tonight, because I was one of those nervous nellies who believed the Bird Flu was going to destroy us all. You were right and I was wrong.

But the economy has become the new catalyst for terror. I remember back in October telling someone, "If you want to know how bad the economy is, start Googling 'Murder/Suicide'" and document the rising rate of change (or in calculus, simply the escalating change in the rate of change, or the multiplier effect.)

Now it's so obvious that these horrific stories have become endemic there is no reason to point out that they are important indications of how dire situations have become.

Call me paranoid, but I imagine some effort will be put into attempting to conceal the magnitude of how many violent events happen in struggling families.

There might be forty a day, but we will hear about one.

There might be ten workplace violence stories, but we will hear about one or two of them.

One of the things I intend to do now is try as best as possible to track, pay attention to and document the kinds of crimes that are probably a result of financial and domestic stress, because I'm very fearful they will be on the rise.

And I welcome and encourage anyone here to post their own stories, or any stories that might be happening in your neighborhood.

1. Violence always goes up during economic hard times.
The term "going postal" came up in the Eighties, when Reagan's anti-worker policies led to frustrated workers killing their bosses and co-workers.

It didn't happen much before then.

We've had about 30 years of this corporate crap shoved down our throats. It officially started with Reagan and the firing of the Air Traffic Controllers. Even in good times, bosses poormouth and say they can't afford to give raises, or to keep people on the job. This is especially bad in the oil business and related support services.
