How to make merit pay for teachers work
I figure the real problem is that there's no way to determine a teacher's effectiveness because teacher have students for a year at most. You can't measure a teacher year by year because they have different kids, which is like comparing apples to oranges. SO, instead of teachers teaching just one grade level or class, they'll be assigned to a group of students from K-12. That way, the teaching skill of the instructor can be measured because the variation in students will be eliminated.

That makes sense, right?

oh yea, :sarcasm:

1. You go to different classes for different grade levels
teachers aren't certified for just k-12...you would have to take a billion classes...it wouldn't work.

2. Yea, I know
That was the point of the argument. There's no way to measure only the performance of a teacher because of all the variables involved.

4. Who said anything about small classes????
I mean, teachers will be with these kids for years. I figure they'll be able to handle like 50 each, right? Besides, we have to have a large enough sample by which to measure the teachers, right?? And, if you really want to show improvement, shouldn't you handicap the teachers at the beginning, haha.
