OH MY FUCKING GOD! NRA fool when asked how many people have been killed by books, responds. . .
"Well, Mein Kampf killed about 6 million people."

From: http://thecapitolfaxblog.com/2009/03/11/afternoon-this-and-that/#comments

* My intern’s rough notes from today’s House Executive Committee meeting on HB 12, the “One gun per month purchase limit” bill…

NRA: …The 2nd Amendment says that the right to bear arms will not be infringed upon. Can’t say one book a month, and due to the same constitutional rights you can’t say I gun a month. ….

Rep. Arroyo: How many people are killed with books each year?

NRA: (Now he is yelling) That is not the issue. Guns are not the problem. All these laws do is restrict the rights of law abiding citizens and violent criminals ignore these laws anyway… they are still able to get guns… the problem is the Chicago public schools system that only has a 47% graduation rate.

Rep. Arroyo: You are not answering the question…How many kids do books kill each year…

NRA: Well, Mein Kampf killed about 6 million people.

2. No people who believed in Mein Kampf killed about 6 million people..
to turn around an old NRA-ism on them...

actually a lot more than that since that was how many who died in the concentration camps and not the war casualties on either front.

5. Not to mention the FACT that it was 11 million people killed in forced labor and extermination camps
Edited on Wed Mar-11-09 11:15 PM by TahitiNut
... 6 million of whom were Jews. This is an example of how the nearly exclusive focus on the Holocaust has blinded many to the far wider ranging evils of fascism.

 Then we can add 15 million combatants and 18 million civilians for a grand total of over 44 million lives taken by fascism in Europe in a mere 5-10 years.

11. Thank you.
I was just about to post a correction to the 6 million number. But, your explanation was much better than anything I would have posted.

It's a different assessment of 'democide' that categorizes the murders across a different range of methods.

The true message of Mein Kampf is one of peace and love.

23. Guns killed six million people, either by guns killing them or gun pointed at them to get on trains
Edited on Thu Mar-12-09 12:14 AM by GreenTea
to go their slaughter and if they didn't get on the trains guns would kill them directly...certainly no book written by a mad man about his life killed them....Free will - It took guns to kill the six million and guns to lead them to their deaths.

24. I encourage all my friends
to purchase firearms and obtain training in their use. A well armed citizenry remains the best single deterrence a would be tyrant could face. If, however, only the supporters of the would be tyrants are well armed ...

Not a popular stance with many of my fellow liberals, I know. But I really wish you guys would load up. It might be the prudent thing to do. Really. The right wing nut jobs down here certainly are, and I would feel better if more of my liberal kindred were ready to rock if it gets down to that.

One weapon per month seems to be reasonable, and I do not feel it constrains my Second Amendment rights in any practical fashion. I'm not suggesting anyone be ready to equip a militia, just that they provide for their personal defense ... and while the 2nd Amendment protects my right to bear arms, it does not grant me or you the right to assemble an arsenal.

I agree with the NRA bloke on this point. Ideas are often more dangerous than weapons, and so books as vehicles of destructive ideas can be far more dangerous than a 12 gauge riot gun. Still, I would not ban books of any sort. As people, we are responsible for what we do with either an idea or a weapon.

Not many I bet. They sure are good at picking out the part they like though.
