Former Cook County Republican Chairman Gary Skoien is denying a police report that said his wife found him at home with two prostitutes and beat him with her fists and a toy guitar.

The report filled out by Barrington-Inverness police says that’s what Eni Skoien told them — and that Gary Skoien confirmed the account, said Deputy Chief Jerry Libit.

“That’s how it was reported to us,” Libit said.

A police report on the incident said he told responding officers there were prostitutes with him in the play room when his wife caught him.

But Skoien told WBBM radio that there were no prostitutes at his home and his wife made the report in “anger.”

Eni Skoien spent two nights in the lock-up before her court hearing Monday morning, Libit said.

in my jurisdiction (and most others) arrests are MANDATORY if there is PC of a domestic violence assault, and whether or not the victim is desirous, is irrelevant.

i find it somewhat disturbing (but typical) that female on male domestic violence is "ok for a joke", but if the reverse had occurred, people would be slagging the abuser.

"hooker" is an insensitive term for a prostitute. Since "whore" has been widely used as an epithet for a woman someone doesn't respect I've known that is not nice to use in any instance. But since "hooker" has always been directly related to the profession, it would never have occurred to me. Just thought it was a slang term like saying "cop" for "policeman."

the same as laughing at, condoning, or trivializing domestic violence. Sometimes people just need to get their asses kicked (with all the standard caveats about bigger/smaller people, etc), and it really doesn't matter if that ass-kicking is delivered by a family member. And, if it's delivered in a humorous way, laughing is fine.

Actually, I lean towards thinking that the automatic response that any conflict in the home is DV trivializes the more serious abuses - if two equally-matched combatants go at it in the heat of the moment (or if a smaller wife whacks a larger man with a guitar) that's not really the DV that we need to be concerned about.

Of course, if it turns out that she has a history/pattern of physical or emotional abuse towards him or the kids, the humor will evaporate quickly, but as it stands now it's pretty funny. (Well, funny if you ignore all the heartbreak to the kids and wife...)
