Watching in her rear-view mirror, she saw David M. Finlay, 51, roll into the street in the middle of the block and cross two lanes of traffic. As he entered the third lane, just north of 79th Street, she saw northbound vehicles approaching. She feared he wouldn’t make it.

She stomped her brakes, threw her transmission into park and jumped from her car, abandoning it in an intersection with an open driver’s door. She ran toward Finlay.

Before she reached him, a northbound pickup truck slammed into his wheelchair and dragged him about 20 feet. The truck kept going.

Finlay lay near a curb, more than 15 feet from his crumpled wheelchair, said the woman, whose name is not being published because the hit-and-run driver remained at large.

1. I have never understood why people do this.

I guess maybe people freak out and don't know what to do and so they just keep going. I really don't get it though - from a purely self-benefit perspective, they're just making a bad situation much, much worse for themselves.

I hope to God that this person get at 50 years once he recovers from the beating he s richly deserves administered at the hands of a vengeful public. Okay, so I know it isn't the nicest thing to wish but I want it to happen to this creep.
